Financial relief on essential bills is a very welcome measure. In an initiative aimed at residents of the Vale do Aço Metropolitan Region, Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais (Cemig) has introduced a program of significant discounts on account of electrical energy.
This program is a direct response to the needs of low-income families, offering relief that can make a considerable difference in their monthly budget. Below, we will see how this benefit is distributed and how those interested can ensure access to the discount.
Discount Program Details

Cemig's Social Electricity Tariff (TSEE) program has the main objective of providing discounts that can range from 65% to 100% on the electricity bill for qualified families. This benefit is aimed at low-income individuals who are registered in the Single Registry (CadÚnico) and the Continuous Benefit Payment (BPC). Joining the program is especially advantageous for those who do not yet receive the benefit, despite meeting the established criteria.
In the Vale do Aço Metropolitan Region, a total of 35,039 residents are benefiting from this program. Cemig revealed that the city of Ipatinga is the largest beneficiary, with 17,924 residents receiving the discount. Other notable cities include Coronel Fabriciano with 8,490 beneficiaries, Timóteo with 4,903 and Santana do Paraíso with 3,722 beneficiaries. These numbers reflect the distribution of the benefit up to the month of July and demonstrate the significant impact of the program in the region.

Requirements and Application Process
To qualify for the discount, residents must be registered with CadÚnico and have a family income that does not exceed half the minimum wage per person. The documents required for the application include a CPF, identity card or other official document with a photo. However, you will also need your Social Identification Number (NIS) and the consumer unit code.
Additionally, families with a monthly income of up to three minimum wages, who have members with special needs that require the continuous use of electrical appliances, may also qualify.
In this case, it is necessary to present a medical report proving the need to use the devices. And they need approval from the Municipal Health Department, if the doctor does not work in the SUS or in partner establishments. And the CadÚnico app, on your cell phone, helps in the process.
For families that already receive BPC, the process is simplified and only requires the presentation of the Benefit Number (NB). This does not include identification documents and the consumer unit code. This process ensures that the benefit is accessible to families that really need it. It also provides important financial support for managing electricity costs.
Benefit Maintenance and Renewal
Residents interested in obtaining or maintaining the discount must register through Cemig Atende Web or at the Service Centers. To continue receiving the Social Tariff benefit, it is crucial that the registration is kept up to date. Regularly updating the registration ensures that beneficiaries continue to enjoy the discount, avoiding suspension of the benefit due to outdated or incorrect information. This measure helps ensure that the program continues to effectively serve the families that need assistance the most.
Cemig’s initiative not only provides substantial financial relief, but also highlights the importance of continued support for low-income families. This contributes to the economic stability and well-being of residents of the Vale do Aço Metropolitan Region.
