Dark mode on mobile
The dark interface is pleasing to the eye and makes the phone look better. As a result, many people start using the feature. However, despite being cool, the resource can bring a negative side to users.
One of the impacts of dark mode is the difficulty in reading. When adhering to functionality, light colors in texts and images are replaced by darker tones, which can make reading difficult due to the decrease in contrast presented.
The loss of sharpness can also cause visual fatigue, making it necessary to increase the size of the letters so that the user can see better and more clearly.
Another negative point is due to the eye strain that the feature can cause at certain times, and this has led many users to disable the mode.
The explanation for this is that the mode's tendency can accentuate the light emitted through screens, making it even more contrasting in relation to the surroundings. Exposure to this type of light can cause discomfort, irritation and difficulty sleeping.
What is dark mode?
Dark mode or night mode is a feature that allows you to darken your smartphone screen. By reducing the brightness of the device, the feature provides more comfort for your eyes, especially at night. In addition, some users activate the mode to save your cell phone battery.
It is possible to activate night mode whenever you want, or the user can also schedule it so that it is activated at the chosen time.
To activate, simply go to your phone’s settings, select the “Display” option and select the “Dark” option.
If you prefer to schedule the option, simply go to “Dark Mode Settings” and select the desired time.
Battery saving
Despite saving battery, the savings are not as great as many users expect. A study conducted by researchers at a university in the United States, using popular Google applications during one-minute cycles on phones with few modifications to Android, in the light theme the devices consumed around 44% and 63% of battery with the screen brightness between 30% and 50%. In the dark theme, the devices saved around 3% and 9% of battery, much less than expected by the researchers.
If the user does not want to be restricted to only light or dark mode, it is possible to change the appearance of the system through themes found in the device brand's online store. It is also possible to change the colors and shapes of the icons with the help of some applications that change the display, organization and interaction of the menus.
To decide which option is best for you, test the modes and see if the light or dark screen causes more discomfort and strain on your eyes. The dark theme may be better for some users, while the light theme may be better for others.
