Learn all about this technology in cell phones. It could arrive in the next few years!
The analysis company CCS Insight made a rather curious prediction in the last few days: cell phones with screens that repair themselves could start arriving on the smartphone market within five years, starting in 2028. This information was shared by CNBC.
Even though it is a very advanced and revolutionary technology for the market, this self-recovery would be minimal on the surface of the screen. In other words, if the user drops the device and causes huge damage, which happens often, there will be no miracle. Are you clumsy and interested in learning more about this “different” technology? Check out all the details about it now and find out how it will work, if it actually makes it to cell phones.
How will the technology work?
For the technology to work, it would need to be incorporated into the surface of the device screen a nano coating. So when the screen suffered some kind of scratch, the coating would create a new material that would react when exposed to air, filling the imperfection in the screen.
The technology has been discussed for a few years now and, according to experts, it is not impossible to implement. The biggest challenge is setting expectations correctly.
Companies that already work with the technology
LG used this nano-coating technology in 2013 on a phone called the G Flex. This phone had a vertically curved screen and a self-healing coating on the back cover. However, the brand did not explain exactly how the technology worked at the time.
In 2017, manufacturer Motorola patented a screen made of shape memory polymer, which repairs itself when cracked, through heat-activated regeneration.
Apple has also secured a patent for a foldable iPhone with a screen cover that can automatically repair itself when damaged.
However, even though the technology already exists, it has not yet been found in a commercially successful mobile phone. There is a barrier to launching these phones on a large scale.
On the one hand, companies require large investments in research and development to ensure the identification of innovations in the field of mobile phones. In addition, it is necessary to have financial resources available for the promotion and marketing of these devices, as well as to ensure that consumers are adequately informed about issues related to the devices that can be resolved without manual intervention.
Technology on screens
Even without mastering this technology, manufacturers are willing to work on more modern screens. Brands like Samsung already manufacture foldable phones with more advanced screens, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, which were launched this year and are top-of-the-line cell phones from the South Korean brand, with a higher price than the brand's other smartphones, including some premium ones.
As it is a trend, Samsung should continue investing in this type of smartphone until 2024, seeking to increase the volume of its sales, due to a crisis faced by the manufacturer since the beginning of the pandemic, in 2020. The two foldable cell phones arrived on the market to compete with the new iPhone 15, which was launched last month by Apple.
The Motorola brand also innovated by presenting a cell phone with a concept of roll-up screen, just like Apple, which never presented the model, but patented a product with this concept.
