GV90 and the new platform
This model will be the company's largest electric model (and also its flagship) and will be built on a new Hyundai platform designed specifically for it. Currently, the group's cars are produced under E-GMP, including the Ioniq 6, the Kia EV6 and the predecessor of this new version, the Genesis GV60. The company's investment in the GV90 totaled US$14T85 million and, according to Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Jang Jae-hoon, it could be a significant improvement.
This is because the platform enables the production of cars ranging from small to large, from SUVs to pickup trucks. The platform also features a 113.2 kWh battery. If this is true, the range should exceed 1,200 km. To give you an idea, the current capacity of the Mercedes-Benz EQS battery, a rival in this market, is 107.8 kWh.
What about the Korean part?
For the GV90, Genesis is working with Samsung through a partnership between Hyundai Motor Group and the company. In addition, two other major players in the electronics and electrical industry, SK and LG, have also signed deals with automakers. According to a Korean automotive blog, the partnership will produce the GV90 with Samsung's Exynos Auto V920 semiconductor, a processor that provides driver assistance, a digital cockpit, and safety features. In addition, the infotainment system is enhanced with Samsung devices.
This could represent a breakthrough in the automotive industry, with connectivity between your car and your smartphone expected to be much more fluid in the future. And a very near future, according to expectations.
