How to make WhatsApp more “private”
Stay offline even when you're online
It is possible to stay offline in the app even when using the internet, so you can use other applications without worrying about WhatsApp.
Android
- Go to your device settings, click on “Applications” and select WhatsApp;
- When opening, click on “Force Stop” and select “Ok”;
- In the “Usage” tab, click on “Mobile Data” and disable the “Allow background data usage” option. This way, you will no longer receive messages or notifications from the app.
iPhone
- Go to “Settings” and look for WhatsApp;
- Click on “Cellular Data” and disable it.
Turn on airplane mode
Activate the airplane mode is an easier way to stay offline in the app. When enabled, the function turns off the device's connections and access to mobile data. - When you receive a message, press the notification and the keyboard will appear. Just type your reply and click “Send”.

- Open the application, click on the three dots and select “Settings”;
- Click on “Notifications” and activate the option “Use high priority notifications”;
After that, notifications will appear on the screen. To respond, click on the arrow that appears, click on “Reply” and then “Send”.
