Update issues have plagued Android and various manufacturers since forever. Google tries to bring the best, but it doesn't always succeed. Currently, a new rumor is circulating that Google could bring an iPhone update to the Pixel 8, while also setting a precedent.

The issue of updates has been a problem for Android for years. The brand has grown and changed, but it is still far from what Apple offers on the iPhone. New versions are required for at least 5 years, especially with improved security. For brands like Samsung or Xiaomi, the scenario has changed. Now brands offer more than Google itself. They already guarantee 4 years of Android updates and 2 years of additional security patches, which is top notch. However, according to a new rumor, this scenario could change soon, at least at Google.

Pixel 8

With the Pixel 8, the search giant is expected to introduce a new philosophy, increasing update times, much closer to what Apple provided for the iPhone. The reason for this change must be the control that Google already has over its proprietary Tensor SoC. Increasingly confident in what it offers, the company has been able to guarantee years of usable behavior and maturity along with new Android features. If approved, this would be a big change for Google and Android.

The company has already surpassed some of its partners, but it only guarantees 3 years of Android updates. Obviously, this is not enough, as the system controls the entire operational development of the device.

So we'll probably have to wait for the Pixel 8 to arrive. With this new smartphone, Google will make a lot of changes and try to be the pinnacle of Android for today's users.

Leaked specifications

The Google Pixel 8a's performance benchmark has just entered the Geekbench 5 database, highlighting the unprecedented use of Tensor G3. The results show a staggering improvement over the Pixel 7a and Tensor G2. At the same time, they reinforce recent rumors that the search giant's next processor will feature a 9-core configuration.

This post lists Google's next-generation phone codenamed "Akita." Android experts have even suggested a large-scale leak that could be related to the company's future plans. In addition to having Android 14 and 8GB of RAM, it is also worth noting that it uses a 9-core processor that is expected to be the Tensor G3.

The listed specs are in line with rumors about the platform, but slightly lower clock speeds are expected for the Pixel a series devices. Apparently, the new version of the chip used in the Pixel 8a uses a 1+4+4 configuration that combines a maximum performance core clocked at 2.91 GHz, four high-performance cores clocked at 2.37 GHz, and four high-efficiency cores. 1.7 GHz. This combination scored 1,218 points in single-core and 3,175 in multi-core, a slight improvement over the Pixel 7a.

The ex Google device The mid-range Pixel 8a with Tensor G2 now scores 1,024 on one core and 2,938 on all cores, up from 20% and 10% on the new generation, respectively. This means that while the Pixel 8a may be smoother for light tasks, it shouldn't offer a significant performance boost for more intensive use.

Release date undated

Since there is no way of knowing when the device will be launched, this information cannot be confirmed yet. However, it is possible that Google will introduce some additional tweaks to the Tensor G3. In addition, the company may expand its scope. In addition, the chip is expected to have advantages over its predecessors. We should also see slightly better numbers for the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, where the cores need to run at higher speeds.
