Meta has been investing in several improvements when it comes to WhatsApp. The application has been testing and releasing new features to improve the user experience and usability of the app. After some changes in its way of use, the platform will now change its look.
The new app design will be based on Material Design 3 and is part of WhatsApp beta 2.23.13.16 for Android users. Material is the latest version of Google's design system, applied to Android, web, and other platforms. It features a simple, 2D design language.

Visual changes
The new look from WhatsApp will be based on the latest version of Google's design system, Material Design 3, applied to Android. The new design is available to beta users in the 2.23.13.16 update and features a simpler, more two-dimensional design language.
In light mode, the app header is now white and other elements are green – the same green used in the WhatsApp logo. The app’s logo in the top left corner now appears in a new font, also in green.
The navigation bar now appears at the bottom of the screen, a change that has already been implemented. Just like in an email inbox, there will be several filter options at the top, so that specific messages can be found more quickly, such as: All, Unread, Personal, Business. This filter feature was already part of previous beta versions, but arrives in this version with a new look.
When will it be available?
Currently, the new features in the app's interface are only available to a small group of testers of the version and should reach more testers soon, in the coming weeks, before being released to all users of the stable version of the app. However, there is still no scheduled date for this to happen.
Change in call interface
WhatsApp is also testing a change in the interface of the calls, mentioning the type of call made and highlighting that it is protected by encryption from end to end. In addition, with the update, the app also added the “add participants” button, making the feature more evident than before.
This feature allows users who are in a call with just one person to add more participants and turn it into a group call, without having to interrupt the call that is already in progress.
These interface improvements now make the add contact button more visible and save users time by immediately noticing the feature's availability.
Currently, many users need to interrupt the call because they don't know that it is possible to add more participants to a conversation this way, as the button for this is not so visible.
New update released
This new feature is available to some beta testers in the 2.23.17.6 update for Android and iOS, in the device's app store and should reach the stable version of the app in the coming weeks, covering all users of the platform.
