The app gained millions of users shortly after its launch. Find out how the membership is going.
Threads, an app from Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, was launched earlier this month and in its first week it already had over 100 million users, becoming the fastest-growing social network in history. The app was launched with the aim of being Twitter's main rival, as the platform has been facing problems that are displeasing users, who would migrate to Meta's new bet, and the company's idea worked, as the topic became a trend.
But, days after the Threads boom, is the app still as popular and attracting new users as it did when the network launched? Find out what experts have to say about the subject!
Engagement
According to information from SenseTower, a website specialized in measuring audience of applications of the internet, the application's engagement fell. In the time that users spent on the application, the drop was 50% when comparing last Saturday (08) and this Wednesday (12). The time would have fallen from 20 minutes of use to just 10 minutes. Regarding the number of active users per day, the drop was 20%.
The site's managing director, Anthony Bartolacci, said the Threads launch 'broke the internet' during the first 72 hours after its launch, with a large number of installations. According to him, the initial results may indicate that despite the excitement at the launch, it will be difficult for the app to gain a place in the social media routine of most users, as the app will need to present a more interesting value proposition than simply being a "Twitter, but without Elon Musk".
According to data from the website SimilarWeb, which also measures data from online websites, the number of active users per day fell by 25%, compared to the peak of access to the app on July 7. However, the website's data remains incomplete, as the numbers for iPhone users have not yet been added. According to the website, the time spent using the app fell from 20 minutes per day to just 8 minutes between July 6 and 10.
The data from both sites only refers to users in the United States. In Brazil, there are still no estimates that confirm whether the app is still popular or not. In European countries, the app has not yet been launched.
The application
Threads is very similar to Twitter, but with more features. The app allows posts with up to 500 characters, as well as sharing links, up to 10 photos, videos of up to 5 minutes, likes and comments. It also has a tool that allows users to choose who can reply to their posts.
According to Meta, the main objective of the platform is to encourage the formation of communities between people and companies, through the sharing of information, allowing users to connect, explore common interests and exchange information on different topics.
