Discover a Samsung with good performance and that fits in your pocket. Learn more about the A34!
The Samsung Galaxy A34 5G was announced in Brazil alongside the Galaxy A54 and offers several cost savings and a more attractive price compared to its “brother”. The phone has a plastic back, a slightly lower camera and a slightly less powerful processor.
Samsung tried to keep the same look in this model, but with less premium materials. And that's what you'd expect from a good mid-range device. The profitability is due to the fact that the experience is great considering the price of the device in the R$ 1800 range. Keep reading and understand the specifications of this model.
Design
Just like the Galaxy A54, the A34 also looks like the Galaxy S23. The cameras appear gradually on the back cover in three circles in the upper left corner, one by one. The LED flash is on the side, between the first and second lenses. This model has plastic sides and back, always the same color, but with a slightly darker tone of the frame. In Brazil, you can choose between black, purple, lime green or silver.
The device has a USB-C connector at the bottom, buttons on the right and a SIM tray at the top. The Galaxy A34 is IP67 certified, well protected against dust and can be submerged in up to 1m of water for 30 minutes. Fingerprint unlocking is done using a sensor under the screen, which is still unusual for a mid-range device.
Screen
The screen has small bezels and a cutout for the front camera. This phone's screen is slightly larger than that of the Galaxy A54. Same type of Super AMOLED panel, Full HD resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, but without support for HDR10+. That is, like most apps, it does not provide additional information about HDR-compatible content.
Brightness levels are excellent, just below the A54's. It's easy to use in any environment, even outdoors on a sunny day. Color quality is great, but it's certainly not up to the standards of high-end smartphone displays.
Sound
Like the Galaxy A54, the A34 also has great stereo sound. However, the focus is on the mids, with a slight loss of bass and treble as the volume approaches its peak.
Processor
MediaTek chips have not been a problem for a long time. The Dimensity 1080 is extremely efficient and offers excellent mid-range performance with the ability to run the most popular games without much fear. In addition to good performance, the processor is also energy efficient. The important thing is that the Galaxy A34 can handle everyday tasks with confidence.
The phone was a bit slow after hard testing, but returned to normal after closing all open apps.
Memory and system
The Samsung phone has 8GB of RAM, which can be doubled with the RAM Plus feature. To do this, you need to reserve some of the internal memory (128GB or 256GB). The Galaxy A34 runs Android 13 on top of One UI 5.1.
Connectivity
This model also supports 5G and offers proximity payments via NFC. The Samsung Wallet app also comes pre-installed. You can use Samsung Pay here, and your important documents are password protected.
Cameras
The Galaxy A34's camera is different from its more powerful sibling, the Galaxy A54. That said, image quality is a little below average, but not so much that you'll notice it when viewing the image. In short, the phone offers reasonable color accuracy, good levels of texture and sharpness. And with great dynamic range, highlights and shadows are detailed without overdoing it to the point where shadow areas look gray.
Compared to more modern models, however, Nightography is a bit of a problem. There’s still a good level of noise reduction and sharpness improvement, but focus is easily lost. However, it far outperforms the competition at the same price point.
Although the front camera resolution is only 13MP, selfies are also very good. The texture is also quite satisfactory. Video recording is also good, both main and front, in 4K resolution and up to 30 fps.
Stabilization is also satisfactory. The Galaxy A34 also has a Super Video Stabilization mode that brings the resolution to Full HD at 30 frames per second.
The images are much more stable and of good quality for use on social media.
Battery
To charge the 5000mAh battery, the Galaxy A34 supports up to 25W. However, the charger in the box is 15W and takes about 2 hours to fully charge from 0% to 100%.
Is A34 worth it?
Samsung has done an impressive job with the Galaxy A series, especially on the camera front. The Korean brand currently has no competitors in this mid-range segment. That said, the Galaxy A34 is a good choice for those looking for a mid-range device that is more affordable than the A54. The camera isn't great, but it's still better than other devices in the R$1,500 to R$2,000 range. Performance is good and battery life is as expected.
