Software problems from the iPhone

Apple, an American technology company, has found some problems in the iOS 16 software. This system is present in several of the brand's products, such as iPhones, iPads and Macs. On Monday, the 10th, the organization released an urgent security update for these devices. The action was intended to correct vulnerabilities in the devices, which could be negatively exploited.

Announcement

Even though the tech giant usually releases updates Every now and then, to improve bugs or bring new security features, this one is different. This feat by the company is much bigger, it is a mass release, so to speak. The update in question was part of the new “Rapid Security Response” program, carried out by Apple. Its goal would be to improve protection in a crucial way, and without the need to download a full update.

Update immediately

Apple has released an emergency security patch for devices running iOS 16.5.1, iPadOS 16.5.1, and macOS Ventura 13.4.1. It was released as a fix for a vulnerability in WebKit. Left unaddressed, this could allow hackers to execute arbitrary code by tricking users into opening a website containing malicious data. The company has already received reports from victims who have experienced this inconvenience.
RSR updates are not full software packages, but rather small patches, meaning they are installed quickly. This update should fix the security issue, but it has tarnished the web experience for some users of its products, who have encountered difficulties since installation.

Company issues recall

According to Macrumor's report, users are starting to report issues accessing websites like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Warnings about unsupported sites are appearing in browsers after installing the Rapid Security Response update.

If you want to know if your machine has this update installed, open your device's settings and check the software version. If the RSR update is installed, what should appear is macOS Ventura 13.4.1(a), iOS 16.5.1(a), or iPadOS 16.5.1(a), depending on the device.

Apple has withdrawn the update, and users can still browse websites by downgrading to the previous version. It is worth remembering that this is not the first time that users have encountered problems with the Rapid Security Response update. Back in May 2023, Apple released the first RSR update, but numerous users reported problems installing it on their devices. The brand's customers just need to watch how the American giant will deal with the issue from now on, in addition to being vigilant about updates, so as not to take unnecessary risks.
