Processor and performance

This new device comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 7030, a chip that hasn't been widely used in phones until now. This chip is a slightly improved version of the existing Dimensity 1050. Comparing processor performance, the Edge 40 Neo should sit somewhere between the Galaxy A34 and the Galaxy A54.

Memory and design

It also has 8 GB or 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, with no option for expansion via Micro SD card. To position itself as a premium solution, Motorola treated the design to be very similar to the existing Edge 40, making it one of the few new devices from the company with all color options available through the partnership with Pantone.

The company is recognized as the most widely used color system in the world. There are three options: Pantone Black Beauty (black), matte acrylic back; Pantone Soothing Sea (bright green), leather-like fabric finish. Pantone Caneel Bay (blue) is also fabric coated.

Screen and cameras

The display is one of the highlights of the device, featuring a 6.55-inch OLED panel with Full HD+ resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. In addition, it contains a 144Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling for fast capture. Playback of HDR content in HDR10+ format is supported, as well as a stereo sound system with up to 1300 nits of brightness and Dolby Atmos surround audio.

The camera kit follows a philosophy recently adopted by the North American brand of sending fewer lenses, but using them better. There is a 32MP sensor for selfies placed in the central notch at the top of the screen and two rear sensors composed of a 50MP main lens with f/1.8 aperture, phase detection focus (PDAF) and optical stabilization. It comes with a 13MP ultra wide-angle lens with (OIS), macro capabilities, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and 120° field of view.

Battery and extra features

The battery is another highlight of the Edge 40 Neo, with a capacity of 5000mAh and 68W fast charging. The device promises to restore 50% of charge in just 15 minutes. There is no wireless charging. This is one of the savings compared to its more advanced siblings.

Additionally, the Motorola comes with Android 13 with significantly improved connectivity features. These include i5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, IP68 water and dust resistance certification, and an under-display fingerprint reader.

Price

THE Motorola Edge 40 Neo is currently available in Europe with a suggested retail price of €399, or about R$2,110 before taxes. There is no information about availability in Brazil yet, but considering the company's latest launch schedule, it won't be long before news arrives here.
