Loss of full access

Youtuber Izzynobre, who used his WhatsApp account not only for personal purposes but also for work, ended up losing his account for good. This happened because WhatsApp only allows you to reactivate your account using your primary device or SIM card number. In this case, the influencer's cell phone was completely unusable and his number was no longer the original one registered, since he had moved to another country.

Izzy's situation can be used as an example for the millions of Brazilians who use WhatsApp for study, work and personal communication. If they no longer had access to the messenger, many would lose work contacts, important documents and much more.

WhatsApp Recommendations

The app's help channel uses the same recommendation for stolen, lost or damaged cell phones. In all cases, WhatsApp makes it clear that there is nothing they can do to help the individual recover their account, since it is linked to the number or device. Check out what the messenger has to say on the subject below, in full:

“There is nothing we can do if you have lost your phone or it has been stolen. We cannot deactivate your WhatsApp account because we have no way of confirming that the phone number associated with that account belongs to you.”

According to the app, the fastest way to protect and get your account back and:

  • First, contact your service provider immediately to block your SIM card.
  • Then, buy a new SIM card with the same phone number and reconfirm your number on WhatsApp using another device. Once you confirm your account on the new device, it will be automatically deactivated on your lost or stolen phone.

It is worth remembering that it is only possible make the portability of a number if the chip was purchased linked to your CPF.

Recover conversations

WhatsApp's official website also says that it cannot help you locate your device. Additionally, WhatsApp cannot be remotely shut down from another device. If you created a backup on Google Drive, iCloud, or OneDrive before your device was lost or stolen, you can restore your chat history. If you are unable to recover your account, it will be deactivated.

What happens when an account is deactivated?

When your account is deactivated, it is not completely deleted yet. For example, your contacts will still be able to see your profile. Messages sent to your account by your contacts will remain pending for up to 30 days. If you reactivate your account before deleting it, all pending messages will be sent to your new phone. In addition, you will remain in groups that you are part of on WhatsApp. However, if you do not activate your account within 30 days, it will be completely deleted.
