System uses

One of the unexpected aspects of Linux is its use by NASA. This is because its quality in preserving the integrity of stored information is a highlight. One example is Perseverance, a space vehicle that landed on Mars, which used the system.

And Linux has already been off-world a few times. The system is used in satellites and instruments in space. Even Elon Musk's SpaceX uses the model.

Another use that no one imagines is the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). There, this system is responsible for various operations, such as buying and selling.

Automatic cars also use the system. Automobiles Google, which do not use humans to pilot, also operate with Linux. There are also vehicles from General Motors and Volkswagen that have the same method as a basis.

In science, Linux has been used extensively. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's largest particle accelerator, is an example. Furthermore, according to experts, the Higgs Boson particle was only identified thanks to the system.

Furthermore, the system itself Android It was designed based on the philosophies dictated by Linux, even though its rival later followed a different path. To this day, it is one of the most reliable systems in existence, an alternative for storing data. That is why Amazon, Google and Meta have adopted the model in their servers and online tools.

Cell phone with Linux?

For years, a technology company called Purism has been creating phones that run Linux as their operating system. The American brand recently launched a “free” smartphone that does not have any of the famous Android or iOS operating systems. That’s why the device is called the Liberty Phone.

The idea is revolutionary, but the price is still quite high compared to cell phones that use other systems and have even better specifications. The new device costs around US$2,199, which in reais would be R$10,751.35, using the current exchange rate.

Therefore, the Liberty Phone may not be worth it at the moment. The specifications leave something to be desired for its high price. The phone has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It has a 5.7-inch screen with 1440 x 720 pixels. In addition, its processor is the NXP i.MX 8M, launched in 2017. It has four ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores with maximum speeds of 1.5 GHz. In other words, the specifications are found in other phones that are much more affordable.
