Design

The Razr 40 Ultra is a flexible clamshell phone that is compact when closed and the size of a normal phone when opened. It has two rear cameras that are individually positioned horizontally. The Edge has a more square camera block, with the main lens standing out.

The 40 Ultra when folded is thinner than the conventional model, in addition to being lighter. Both have an aluminum construction and a glass back with Gorilla Glass protection. The Victus version is present in the foldable, while the fifth generation is present in the Edge.

Announcement

Both phones are IP52 certified, making them resistant to dust and splashes of water. The foldable phone has a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button, while the Edge's reader is located under its screen.

Neither of them has a slot for storage expansion. Both feature Wi-Fi 6 and NFC. The Razr has Bluetooth 5.3, while the Edge has 5.2.

The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra takes the point for having a more modern design and more benefits.

Screen

The Razr has a 6.9-inch pOLED internal display and the Edge has a 6.67-inch OLED display. Both offer high levels of brightness and support for HDR10+. Both feature Full HD+ resolution.

The foldable phone has a variable rate of 165 Hz, while the conventional one has a rate of 144 Hz. The external screen of the foldable is 3.6 inches with high definition and a rate of 144 Hz.

With that, the point also goes to the 40 Ultra.

System

The foldable phone comes from the factory with Android 13 natively, while the conventional one comes with the Android 12 version. The manufacturer guarantees three software updates for each.

The interface has not undergone major changes, which allows for good fluidity. Both phones have the 5G technology, to ensure a better mobile network.

Both have the famous gestures to open the camera and turn on the flashlight, in addition to ReadyFor technology, which turns the phone into a portable computer. The 40 Ultra still has some differences in relation to the 30 Ultra. This point also goes to Motorola's foldable phone.

Performance

Both phones come equipped with the processor Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, but that doesn't mean they have the same performance. Tests indicate an advantage in the Edge, which had a 14-second advantage over the Razr.

With that, the point is for the Edge, a conventional model.

Cameras

The foldable phone has two rear cameras, compared to the triple camera setup on the conventional model. The foldable's main 12 MP camera captures a lot of detail and good colors, but the Edge offers superior contrast and better textures with its 200 MP main sensor. The Edge's night mode is also more efficient.

With these features, the point also goes to Edge.

Battery

The Razr has a 3,800 mAh battery, which is smaller than the Edge's 4,610 mAh. Despite the difference, tests don't show a huge difference in practice. The Edge wins, with a little over 26 hours of battery life, 40 minutes more than the 40 Ultra.

When it comes to charging, the foldable takes an hour to charge 100%, while the Edge takes just 21 minutes to complete the process. With that, the point goes to it.

Price

Motorola has officially launched both phones in Brazil. The Razr 40 Ultra was available for R$1,400, more expensive than the R$1,400 charged for the Edge 30 Ultra. Currently, the foldable phone can be found for around R$1,400, while the conventional phone can be found for around R$1,400.
