See how to fix defects in a cell phone that came from outside Brazil. Check out what should be done.
With the arrival of the iPhone 15, and its very high price, many Brazilians chose to buy the new Apple phone outside the country. However, what many users didn't think about was how manufacturing defects or technical failures would be resolved. This can be a big problem, since the warranty usually doesn't extend to other countries.
However, there are ways to solve this unforeseen problem. Leandro Alvarenga, lawyer and columnist, spoke a little about what to do if your imported cell phone has defects. Check out the expert's answers below.

What to do?
Alvarenga explains that in this case Brazilian law itself applies. In other words, consumer protection laws are fully applicable. In this case, there is a 7-day right of withdrawal, a 30-day consumer goods warranty and a 90-day durable consumer goods warranty.
If you purchase the product abroad, either yourself or through a supplier, you will still be entitled to technical support, but under slightly different conditions.
If the product manufacturer operates in Brazil
According to the Brazilian Institute for Consumer Protection, if the brand that manufactures your defective product operates in Brazil, it must apply Brazilian legislation to resolve the problem. This means that it must also comply with the Consumer Protection Code, even if the device is not manufactured or sold in Brazil.
The CDC stipulates that consumers have thirty days to complain about problems with non-durable products (such as food) and ninety days to complain about durable products (such as laptops and cell phones). If the product was purchased through an importer, the importer will be responsible for resolving the problem. In general, products must be returned in perfect condition within 30 days. However, if you have to leave Brazil, you will need to be a little more patient.
If the product manufacturer does not operate in Brazil
According to IDEC, if the manufacturer of the product does not operate in Brazil, the contractual rules of the place of purchase (such as the United States or China) should prevail, so it is important to ask and read the warranty terms. They specify the support conditions for the desired product before finalizing the purchase.
When is it worth importing an iPhone?
Basically, It pays to import if there is a line update. This is because new products, for example from Apple, can stimulate the market and increase demand in several countries around the world, including Brazil. Therefore, it is recommended to import the latest version of the iPhone, for example. This is because this version will take time to become cheaper and sometimes, even with the taxes, importing it is still more cost-effective for the consumer.
What are the import taxes?
The main taxes are: IPI, PIS, COFINS and ICMS. Therefore, it is important to calculate the costs based on the total value of the items that will be received. In addition, it is worth noting that import taxes, shipping and other fees increase the value of your purchase. Therefore, it is interesting to do good planning to evaluate the price in Brazil and know if it will really be an advantageous operation.
