No update

With the arrival of iOS 17, the models of iPhone that will be excluded from the update list in 2023 are as follows:

  • iPhone SE (2020);
  • iPhone X;
  • iPhone 8;
  • iPhone 8 Plus.

The models mentioned will no longer receive updates in the future. Therefore, your operating system will be limited.

This is important to consider when choosing an iPhone, especially if you value continuous operating system updates.

What happens?

The improvements brought by software updates often go unnoticed by the average user. However, if left unattended, they pose several additional risks to your security.

Check out the main risks when not updating your phone.

Less efficient processing

One of the goals developers have when implementing new updates is to improve the performance of their software on different mobile devices, remove redundant lines of code, and reduce the number of bugs. This is why newer versions of various programs tend to run more smoothly, especially on newer devices and operating systems.

You won't notice the performance loss at first, but soon some new versions will perform much better than the previous ones. Therefore, if you don't update to the latest versions, you may experience various problems when running programs and apps.

Compatibility issues

A relevant issue regarding scheduled updates is that they are performed to keep up with the development of various programs, applications and operating systems. This happens because when an operating system such as iOS or Android receives an update, all applications may need to review their code. This action helps with system damage or process problems.

Using very old apps on new phones usually causes problems for the machines. Even if the hardware is more capable, this does not mean that the code is suitable to work together with all the other tools on the smartphone. The greater the difference in specifications, the greater the incidence of errors.

Security holes

But ultimately, the main and biggest reason not to stop updating your software is security. Keeping your phone and data safe is essential. When a program is released, it usually has some bugs in its code that can be exploited by criminals to facilitate system hacking, data theft, or malware. Once these flaws are discovered, more people can become victims.
