PET bottle is used to make antenna in remote area. See how!
Anyone who lives in or has visited remote areas knows that the quality of cell phone networks in these areas is often poor, if not non-existent. In these places, the most unusual “hacks” are carried out, trying to recover any small signal points.
This is the case of antennas made from PET bottles, rocks and sand. This is a well-known technique that occasionally attracts attention on social media and went viral on TikTok this week. To understand more, keep reading.

improvised antenna
Produced by Bianca Veronese, the video was recorded on the farm of Gabrielly Campos' grandparents, in the interior of Paraná, where they gathered for a “July Party”. The place is in the middle of a forest and there are no towers, not even on high ground. It was Gabrielly's uncle who discovered the improvised antenna through a Facebook post and showed it to her father (the young woman's grandfather).
Surprisingly, the solution worked and at the same time the telephone connection was restored. The invention called “Celulitro” was very popular among families and today there are about 10 towers around the house. It is located between a fixed location made of water jugs and a mobile “tower” made of PET bottles. There is a layer of stones and sand at the bottom of the plastic cut in the middle to accommodate the telephone. Bianca said that the signal never reached anywhere in the house, except for the bottle.
In the comments of this video, which has more than 1.7 million views, those who have already tested the antenna say that it really works. The homemade solution surprised everyone and proved to be an effective alternative for bad sign in areas far from cell towers. The simplicity of the technology, using readily available materials, caught the attention of internet users and the story soon spread across social media.
This video shows a creative antenna setup that can be easily replicated by others with connectivity issues in rural areas or areas where access to cell towers is difficult. The nickname “Celulitro” is well-known among Internet users, and many have shared versions of their creations, encouraging others to try the technique.
Technical explanation
In fact, there is no technical basis for the creation. After all, none of the components used can affect the signal reception. On the contrary, electrical conductors are terrible and practically invisible to the electromagnetic waves that your phone sends and receives.
Eduardo Tude, president of the Teleco consultancy, explains that in areas with very poor signal reception, obstructions such as walls, furniture or a human body holding a phone can worsen signal reception. “Objects or bodies are obstacles to electromagnetic waves. Some completely reflect light, such as metals, while others allow it to pass through even with reduced intensity, as happens in the human body, for example.”
Therefore, the field of action is not in the PET bottle antenna itself, but rather in the distance between the device and the body when supported by the object. The expert states that it may happen that the phone picks up a very weak signal when it is stationary and there is no interference.
