Find out which models will lose the messaging app from October. They are Android and iOS phones.

Starting October 24, 35 Android and iOS cell phone models will lose access to WhatsApp. Some updates are necessary for the app to work properly, with its new features available. As a result, some older models end up not being able to keep up with the app's new features, which ends up preventing it from working.

Many posts on the subject have gained notoriety in recent weeks and have ended up shocking users. Despite this, Meta has not confirmed the information. Even with the end date set for October, many cell phones have already lost access to the app in July, without the company providing any explanation.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used instant messaging apps in the world. As a result, many users use the app to resolve personal and professional issues. With countless users, the platform has made several changes and released new features to further improve the experience within the app.

For new features to work satisfactorily, the cell phone operating system needs to be updated, whether Android or iOS. However, some older models no longer have the ability to be updated, which makes the device incompatible with new WhatsApp updates. As a result, these phones are no longer capable of running the messenger.

Announcement

The app will be out of service precisely because of this lack of updates to the system, as it will only be compatible with models running Android 5.0 or later. Currently, compatibility is with Android 4.1 and 4.4 models.

With this change, the Android cell phones lower than system 5.0 will no longer receive updates. The change will also affect cell phones with the iOS 12 system, such as the iPhone 6 and its predecessors.

Compatibility

When WhatsApp stops being compatible with a version of the system, users can no longer update the app and fix system bugs, losing general support. This situation compromises the functioning of the app on the cell phone, preventing it from receiving new security updates and released features.

Some cell phones have already started to suffer from the shutdown in July, but Meta reported that the app will stop working on these versions of the system only in October. The company, however, did not explain the early shutdown on these cell phones.

Support changes happen annually. Last year, the app stopped offering support for iPhones running iOS 10 and iOS 11. By stopping support for this model, the platform informs users that they can choose to purchase a more recent phone or use a new app to exchange messages.

How to check the system version
