Message editing

Since May of this year, WhatsApp has provided a message editing button, but this feature is limited to individual or group conversations.

Messenger is now developing a beta version of the service's Android extension, with the ability to edit the text of community notification groups.

According to WABetaInfo, the new feature appeared in the beta version of WhatsApp 2.23.18.16 on the Google Play Store. As with any other conversation, anyone can edit a message 15 minutes after sending it, and the process is the same. Just follow the steps below.

  • Tap and hold the message.
  • Select the three dots icon.
  • Tap “Edit”
  •  Now, insert new text.

This feature can be very useful for people who manage communities in their apps. If the edit button is available, there is no need to delete the notification to publish it again. Currently only available in beta, community editing of notifications is only possible if the user has access, so it is not available to everyone yet.

If you are participating in the Google testing program Play Store, you can download the new version to see if the feature has been applied. It may take several weeks to release a stable version of your app. In the meantime, you can edit messages in other conversations, both individual and group.

Hidden connection

Another feature being tested by WhatsApp offers the ability to hide your IP address during conversations.

The Messenger 2.23.18.15 Beta version pack will introduce a new privacy option that, when enabled, will make it harder for others to find you. The “Protect IP address during calls” option is available in the Privacy > Calls menu.

According to the tool's description published on the WABetaInfo website, the feature redirects users' calls to WhatsApp servers "to make it harder to determine the user's location."

However, adding security comes at a cost: call quality. In the description, WhatsApp says that the feature affects real-time conversations. It's unclear what the actual effect of this feature is, but it's likely a matter of sound clarity and latency between participants.

Despite its shortcomings, the extra layer of privacy is a valuable addition. This feature will give users the freedom to choose whether they prefer the most convenient connection possible or prioritize privacy during the chat.

Still in production

However, WhatsApp’s IP address protection options are still under development. This feature is not yet available to testers and may take some time to roll out as it is a major addition. For now, you should keep an eye on Messenger’s updates and follow them.
