Everyone already knows that WhatsApp is a widely used instant messaging channel. However, with the need for constant information exchange and the ease of sending information from different segments, the application has become increasingly useful in our daily lives.
And with this convenience in mind, a recent innovation in the app aims to protect women from different countries, working 24 hours a day, every day. Continue reading and find out how it works.
Call 180
This is Ligue 180, a support channel for abused women, which has already started operating on WhatsApp and aims to protect women from cases of aggression.
To report the incident, simply add the Ligue 180 number to your cell phone (61-9610-0180), and then send a message via WhatsApp. A virtual assistant named Pagu will assist you.
The channel will offer help options, but a call center operator can be contacted at any time. Only women will be working on the call center. With this new feature, Ligue 180 now operates by phone and WhatsApp, every day of the week, from anywhere in the country.
The service
Through connection free and confidential, this reporting channel operates in Brazil, Argentina, Belgium, Spain, USA (San Francisco and Boston), France, French Guiana, Netherlands, England, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Paraguay, Portugal, Switzerland, Uruguay and Venezuela.
In addition to registering reports of violations against women, forwarding them to the competent bodies and monitoring them, the service also provides information on women's rights, legal support and the support and assistance network.
The Ministry of Women reported that data collected on violence against women through Ligue 180 on WhatsApp will also be used in the formulation of public policies.
Data in Brazil
Based on data released in March, from the bulletin Elas Vivem: dados que não se calam, from the Security Observatory Network, in Brazil, 2,423 cases of violence against women were recorded in 2022, with 495 femicides.
The states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have the most worrying numbers, with almost 60% of the total cases. The research collected data in seven states: Bahia, Ceará, Pernambuco, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Maranhão and Piauí.
Information is collected from daily monitoring of what circulates in the media and on social networks about violence and security.
Gender equality in Brazil
This Monday (03), the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, sanctioned Law 14.611, which guarantees more measures of salary equality between men and women, in addition to advances such as the amendment of the Statute of the Bar and the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) and which includes moral harassment, sexual harassment and discrimination as ethical-disciplinary infractions within the scope of the OAB.
The Bolsa-Atleta Law was also modified so that pregnant athletes or mothers of newborns can continue to receive assistance during pregnancy and up to six months after giving birth.
