Meta's application presented major problems. Understand better.
WhatsApp is one of the most popular apps in Brazil. Because of its ease of sending text messages, videos, audios and photos, this communication tool has won the hearts of people in the country. It's no wonder, with all these features, the app is free and works on both computers and cell phones.
Furthermore, the tool has become almost indispensable in work and study environments, and is even used for remote meetings. However, because it is used in the daily lives of countless users, not only in Brazil but around the world, when WhatsApp has problems, people all over the world are affected. One of these problems happened this week. Keep reading and find out more.
Application crash
WhatsApp became unstable when sending messages on Wednesday night (2). According to user reports, the bug affected both Android and iPhone (iOS) mobile applications, as well as the web version of the messaging app, specifically the WhatsApp Business service.
According to Downdetector, a website that monitors online services, the problem began around midnight and peaked at 12:24 p.m., with 4,360 notifications. The peak for businesses was close behind, at 12:23 p.m., with 1,014 messages. According to Google Trends, WhatsApp outages have increased searches on the topic exponentially. Terms such as “WhatsApp down today,” ...Whatsapp down” and “Whatsapp down today in 2023” have increased in recent days in the search tool.
User reaction
On social media, users reported being surprised by the problem. “I thought many people were experiencing internet signal loss at the same time,” wrote one user. Another person also thought the problem was her network. The young woman turned her Wi-Fi off and on several times before discovering that WhatsApp was down.
Furthermore, comments in English and Spanish among the thousands of mentions of the problem, mainly on Twitter (or X), suggest that the problem also affected users in other countries.
The problem also affected the professional lives of some people, who relied on the app to close deals. “Guys, is my WhatsApp Business down? It doesn’t work and I’m in the middle of an argument with a client who owes me R$$432.00,” said one internet user.
And now?
THE WhatsApp problem It didn't take long for the problem to be resolved. The app started working again after a supposed outage in several countries. On the same day, Wednesday (2), users were already using the messaging app normally. The mobile version, web version and also the professional version returned to working properly.
Meta, the company that controls the app, told the press that it had fixed the problem. However, no explanation was given as to what caused the failure or whether it will happen again. Users can only hope that the problem does not become a recurring one, as this is not the first time that the app has crashed without explanation.
That same year, WhatsApp had already suffered global outages on July 19. The app crashed around 5:00 p.m., but returned half an hour later. Meta also did not provide further explanations about this case.
