Meet the fastest carrier in Brazil. This list can help you choose where to take your phone number.
There are several carriers in the Brazilian market. The main ones, which are used by most consumers, are Vivo, Claro and TIM. But if they were tested, which company would have the chips with the best performance in terms of internet speed and quality?
Well, this test has been done. Now, we can know which is the best operator at the moment in Brazil. Check out below which brand won this position.
Vivo is the fastest operator on the market
Vivo is the operator with the fastest mobile internet in the country. In the last quarter, the company reached an average speed of 47.44 Mbps. The difference is small compared to Claro, which comes in second place with an average connection speed of 46.67 Mbit/s. TIM occupies third place in the network with 43.34 Mbit/s.
This data was compiled by Ookla based on millions of speedometer measurements taken on Speetest.net in Q3 2023. While this report is interesting, always keep in mind that network conditions can change depending on location.
5G will boost Brazil's growth
It’s perhaps even more instructive to look at the overall numbers for the Brazilian market. In recent weeks, average mobile internet speeds have exceeded 47 Mbps. For reference, the speed in August 2022 was 31.52 Mbps, while last month it was 47.02 Mbps.
The increase in speed comes with the expansion of 5G signals, mainly in standalone mode, where the network core and equipment are fully dedicated to the technology. There was little improvement in data transfer speeds, with average upload speeds increasing from 10.71 Mbit/s to 12.71 Mbit/s in one year.
Brazil ranks 51st in the world ranking for mobile connectivity. Compared to the last quarter, we have dropped one position. The United Arab Emirates, Qatar and China occupy the top three places.
Brasilia remains in first place
Regardless of the date chosen, there is a good chance that Brasília will be the city with the fastest network in the country. The same happened with the third quarter of 2023. Brasília residents achieved an average download of 106.21 Mbit/s. Goiânia is in second place with 80.32 Mbit/s. Next comes São Paulo (79.91 Mbit/s) in 3rd place, Curitiba (77.67 Mbit/s) in 4th place and Rio de Janeiro (75.54 Mbit/s) in 5th place.
Samsung beats iPhone
The study also takes into account the smartphones used to conduct the speed tests. This allows Ookla to calculate average speeds for the most popular devices. As you can see below, Samsung outperforms Apple.
Galaxy S23 Ultra – 243.86 Mbps
Galaxy S22 Ultra – 220.92 Mbps
iPhone 14 Pro – 202.98 Mbps
iPhone 14 Pro Max – 193.59 Mbps
Galaxy A54 – 191.09 Mbps
Please note that the study period does not include the iPhone 15 launch period.
Price reduction
The winner of the test, the Vivo operator, has reduced the prices of Vivo Total, its fiber optic internet and mobile telephony service, in several cities in the country. For example, in São Paulo, Vivo Total's cheapest plan currently costs R$150/month, which is R$20 cheaper. This includes mobile internet with Vivo Fibra 300 Mbit/s and an allocation of 20 GB.
Vivo Total Pro, which offers 500 Mbps and 50 GB of mobile data via fiber, dropped to R$180 per month, also down from R$20. The other Vivo Total combinations remain unchanged, starting at R$270 and reaching R$1,200, according to the survey. It is worth remembering that the prices indicated here were calculated in the city of São Paulo.
