- Access the Updates tab: Make sure you see the Updates tab on your WhatsApp home screen.
- Tap the button to create a WhatsApp channel: In the Updates tab, scroll down until you find the Channels section, tap + and then tap Create Channel.
- Add a photo, name, and description: The channel name helps you find it in search. The description can include details about content, frequency, and other information relevant to the member.
- Complete channel creation: Tap the “Create Channel” button to complete the process.
Now all you need to do is share your WhatsApp channel with the people you care about. WhatsApp feature was released in September 2023. Please note that the rollout of this tool is gradual, so some features are still limited.
Currently, you cannot add admins other than WhatsApp channel creators. You also cannot edit updates (messages) sent on your WhatsApp channel.

How do WhatsApp channels work?
WhatsApp channels are a way to send updates to your followers. Unlike groups, communication is one-way. That is, only the creator or admin can send messages. The feature is similar to a broadcast list. However, the WhatsApp channel is located in the Updates tab (previously known as Status), separate from individual chats and groups.
Additionally, by default, followers do not receive notifications about channel updates. Unlike other Messenger mass communication features, the search feature allows anyone to search and find WhatsApp channels.
Will my phone number be visible on my WhatsApp channel?
No, even if you are an admin, no one will be able to see your phone number. Also, admins who have not saved your contacts to their phone will only be able to see part of your name and phone number. Your WhatsApp profile picture will be visible if your privacy settings are set to Everyone.
