Learn more about Twitch's new tools. They're already available in other apps.
Now Twitch is one of several platforms that have added support for posting Stories on their mobile app. This feature is available in the Following tab and can be created by partner channels that have broadcast at least once in the last 30 days.
Unlike other networks, stories on streaming platforms last up to 48 hours. You can create compositions with your camera, use files from your gallery, create blank frames, and import clips from recent shows. Read on for more information on Twitch’s new feature.
Stories on Twitch
Stories’ navigation format is similar to that of many other apps. Users can tap on a post’s thumbnail to preview the content and tap on the edge of the screen to move forward or backward through the list of stories. The platform also allows users to create exclusive posts for their channel’s subscribers.
This feature is available to all accounts with 30 or more subscribers. The tool can increase daily usage of the platform by allowing you to create new ways to interact with your audience community without leaving the app. The new feature is available globally to users who have the Twitch app updated.
It’s important to note that this isn’t the platform’s first attempt to copy features from other social networks into its app. The company is also testing a TikTok-style vertical feed. Streaming platform Amazon announced in August that it was testing a vertical search feed that closely resembles the structure of the Chinese social network. As Twitch said in its official X post, the test was conducted on “select users.” “This limited experience will help us train our algorithms and get your feedback,” a Twitch representative added in the post.
TikTok Effect
Stories can now be considered the stickers of the major social networks. Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok are just a few examples (Twitter had this feature, but it was removed in 2021). There was a time when it even became a meme because there were so many apps that had this function, even those that didn't have a big social appeal. In other words, Twitch isn't the only ephemeral publishing tool these days. Telegram Messenger also introduced this feature in 2023, making it more similar to its rival WhatsApp in this regard.
TikTok has taken the social media world by storm since 2020, breathing new life into the world of short-form videos. In recent years, Spotify has gained features in TikTok style, Instagram reorganized much of its structure (it used to include a main feed, but later returned), started investing more than ever in short videos with Reels, and Google also got in on the Chinese app's spirit, with a new feature called Shorts, from its competitor YouTube. And these are just some of the most famous platforms that have felt the growing presence of the dance network and decided to experiment with the short vertical scrolling video format. Twitch's plans are still new and in testing, so it may take some time before they are mature enough to reach the general public.
