Equatorial Energia Alagoas, formerly known as Companhia Energética de Alagoas (CEAL), is an electricity distribution company that operates in the state of Alagoas and is headquartered in Maceió. The company is a subsidiary of Equatorial Energia and the only concessionaire to serve the approximately 3.3 million residents of Alagoas.
The capital of Alagoas was one of the first Brazilian cities to receive electricity. The service began on January 14, 1896. The company responsible for it was the Empresa Luz Elétrica de Alagoas, a privately owned company that used a steam engine with three 75 horsepower boilers each.
Later, in 1962, the capital's electricity distribution concessionaire was nationalized and became controlled by Eletrobras and acquired by Ceal in 1968, which would later become Equatorial Energia Alagoas.
