Roll-up screens

Samsung could launch its first cell phone with a rollable screen by 2025. This rumor was released by the informant @Tech_Reve last Thursday (24) through a post on X, formerly Twitter.

The OLED panel was revealed by Samsung Display in May 2023, but according to SamMobile, it is expected to launch alongside the yet-to-be-announced Galaxy Z Flip 7 or the Galaxy Z Fold 7. As usual, the manufacturer did not comment on the rumor.

Device details

According to analysts, the screen should not have visible edges or parts that take up the entire display. Another highlight is the fact that the device should have a selfie camera below the display. It is improved and has no cutouts, which preserves the discretion of the components in the overall design.

The flexible screen, also called a “slider,” can expand up to 12.4 inches or remain smaller if needed. To do this, the hardware has a small built-in motor that opens and closes the foldable panel according to the user’s needs.

Race between brands

As mentioned, Samsung Display is at the forefront of creating new types of displays and their applications. In addition to rollable phones, the company is also developing other projects, such as phones that can turn into tablets. At CES 2023, the company revealed a new prototype that can fold and slide at the same time. folding devices The brand's new devices, such as the Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip, are examples of competitors that have entered this segment. So far, foldables are the latest in screen technology, but if studies are anything to go by, that's about to change.

It's important to note that Samsung isn't the only company researching this area. Last October, Motorola also announced a roll-up model of phones ranging in size from 5 to 6.5 inches. However, there is no release date yet. LG has already demonstrated a prototype of a rollable phone at CES 2021, but this project has not left any paper behind so far. In other words, all we can do is wait for the launches of these companies, so that users can get to know a new way of using their cell phone screen. The only thing we can be sure of is that the innovations should not stop here.
