Solving the problem

To resolve the 5G issue on your phone, follow these steps:

  1. Open your phone's settings;
  2. Click on “Network and Internet” or “Connections”;
  3. Look for the “Mobile Network” or “Mobile Data” option;
  4. Go to “Options” or “More” and click on “Network” or “Network Type”;
  5. Select the “5G” option and that’s it. The phone will connect to the network.

Please note: These tips will only work if your plan has 5G enabled and your device is compatible with the network. To find out if your device is compatible, just follow the same steps and check if the 5G option is available. If it is not available, your device is only compatible with networks up to 4G.

5G

The 5G, the fifth generation internet, arrived in Brazil just over a year ago, in Brasília. After the arrival of the technology, several cities began to receive the signal, which was activated by main operators of the country's telephone companies, Claro, TIM and Vivo. Despite progress, the network is still present in the daily lives of few Brazilians, when compared to the use of 4G.

Announcement

The new technology allows more devices to access the internet at the same time, and the signal reaches further away than other networks. One year after its arrival in the country, the 5G has more than 10 million users, serving more than 150 cities.

The 10 million user mark was reached in just 11 months of launch, while 4G took 26 months to reach the same number of users. Operators have installed network access in all cities in the country with more than 500,000 inhabitants, and in half of the cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants. According to data from a survey conducted by a company that evaluates the quality of mobile networks, OpenSignal, download speeds on 5G are about 10 times faster than those on 4G. In Recife, the capital of Pernambuco, the number reached 18 times faster.

Difficulties

Even with the rapid progress, some obstacles still exist. Users complain that even with the technology available in their municipalities, many people are unable to maintain a constant connection. The problem can be explained by the distance from the antenna that provides the network signal.

The National Telecommunications Agency, Anatel, has determined that operators must install one antenna for every 100,000 inhabitants currently. The goal is to increase this to one antenna for every ten thousand inhabitants by 2025.

Despite Anatel's efforts, municipal legislation ends up hindering the installation of antennas in cities, which can end up making the network difficult to operate for many users.
