Samsung S24 Ultra: Does it LOOK VERY LIKE the iPhone?

South Korean manufacturer may completely change the look of its new cell phone, making it different from the brand's current models. Find out everything!

Samsung could bring major changes to the design of its new top-of-the-line cell phone in 2024. According to rumors, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will leave the curved display and will adopt a flat screen, ensuring more safety for the glass in case of a fall, but it should reduce the frontal use by having thicker edges.

One of the information leakers, Ice Universe, defends the hypothesis that the company will abandon the curved look and released last week an image that compares the supposed front design of the next releases of some of the main cell phone brands, including the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Xiaomi 14.

 Speculations

According to the speculations, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have the largest screen borders with a thickness of 1.75 mm. Its side frame will also be thicker and will be 1.67 mm, which is twice the side frame of the Xiaomi 14. With that, it would be:

Galaxy S24 Ultra:

Announcement

– Screen border: 1.75 mm

– Frame thickness: 1.67 mm

– Total edge: 3.42 mm

iPhone 15 Pro Max

– Screen border: 1.55 mm

– Frame thickness: 1 mm

– Total edge: 2.55 mm

Xiaomi 14

– Screen border: 1.3 mm

– Frame thickness: 0.8 mm

– Total edge: 2.1 mm

With these assumptions, the S24 Ultra could have edges around 34% larger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which will be its biggest competitor in the global market. Apple's phone could arrive with a large reduction in its bezels compared to previous generations, despite featuring Dynamic Island technology, which takes up a significant amount of space at the top of the screen.

The change in the look of Samsung's cell phone may be an attempt to reduce risks and damage to the glass screen. Curved screens that extend all the way to the side of the cell phone are more exposed to impact in the event of a fall. Therefore, the decision could reduce the concern of users who want to protect the integrity of the device. The possibility is reinforced by rumors that the new model from Samsung will be equipped with a frame made of titanium alloy.

Despite concerns about the device's integrity, the curved screen offers a more immersive experience when watching videos and playing games. The South Korean company has been using this type of screen in its models for years and many users see the feature as one of the main highlights of the brand's products.

Confirmations

The information has not been confirmed by Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi. Therefore, they should be treated as rumors until an official announcement is made by each company. The iPhone 15 is expected to be released by September 13, while the new model from Xiaomi should be presented in mid-November, with no confirmed date.

Meanwhile, the new Galaxy S24 Ultra is only expected to be announced in February next year, 2024. Other leaks suggest that the model will have a brighter screen, with a peak brightness of 2,200 nits. The information also suggests that it will have Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy platforms and up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, being the brand's top-of-the-line model.
