Samsung Electronics released the first information about its 2023 security patch for Galaxy phones and tablets back in early September. This update fixes over 62 vulnerabilities, including 4 critical ones.
This system update is expected to roll out to the most widely used devices first and provide important fixes for privacy and security vulnerabilities. Read on to learn more.
Security updates
Samsung's September 2023 security patch includes fixes for over 62 software security and privacy vulnerabilities. Of these, 4 are marked as important and 19 are considered high risk by Google.
Samsung Semiconductor, which makes Exynos chips and modems, has released four security patches for affected Galaxy phones and tablets, two of which are considered medium-risk and two are considered low-risk. In addition, through the official announcement, Samsung said that it has fixed 35 vulnerabilities on its devices through the September 2023 security patch. Some of which include keyboard, security settings, Dual Messenger, Samsung Know, weather app, and lock.
The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22, Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 should receive the update first. Mid-range devices and tablets should receive updates in the second phase, and more entry-level models will be included later. It is worth noting that the S23 line of devices is already participating in the One UI 6.0 beta program. In addition to explaining the security package, Samsung Electronics also announced that it will end software support for the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Plus after four years of updates.
Upgrade to S23
In the United States, the series Galaxy S23 received its update patch right at the beginning of the project, more specifically on September 7. Now the update has arrived in Brazil with a few weeks delay, as have other updates since the official launch of the device, in February.
This update is available in Brazil for Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra with firmware versions S918BXXS3AWI3 / S918BOWO3AWH9 / S918BXXS3AWGJ. The upgrade is 331.46 MB in size and includes the September security patch.
According to Samsung, this update fixes over 60 security and privacy vulnerabilities and improves overall system stability. However, looking at the big picture, there don't seem to be any new features or major changes. If you own a Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra and want to check if you already have the September security patch, it's simple. Go to "Settings", "Software Update" and click "Download and Install".
The Galaxy S23 series was announced in the first quarter of this year with Android 13 using the One UI 5.1 interface. According to Samsung's policy, the device will receive four Android updates and is currently in the testing phase with One UI 6.0 based on Android 14. The stable version of the system for mobile phones is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of this year.
