A new rumor about Samsung's AI development suggests that the Korean company has partnered with Microsoft. The partnership would be to use the Azure OpenAI service in its tool. The goal was to create a solution for internal use by the manufacturer's employees.
This rumor was shared by Korean website ED Daily, following a series of reports that the company was considering using chatbots to compete with artificial intelligence products from North American companies. However, previous reports indicated that Samsung's cooperation in this mission was with Naver.
Korean ChatBot
Samsung’s chatbot can help with tasks such as translating texts and summarizing documents, among other applications. The AI solution will primarily be used to streamline processes and speed up the Korean company’s workflow.
If the rumors are true, the partnership with Microsoft will provide access to OpenAI's large-scale language models. These are the same ones that power ChatGPT. It is worth remembering that the Redmond giant invested in OpenAI and signed an exclusive agreement to provide access to LLM through the Azure cloud computing service.
Interestingly, in May this year, the phone maker Galaxy cell phones Samsung Electronics Co. has banned its employees from using ChatGPT in the office. The aim was to protect company data. At the same time, the manufacturer announced that its smart home devices will benefit from a new version of Bixby. It should come with general AI capabilities that can provide personalized recommendations to users. Samsung is expected to reveal more about its plans and initiatives in artificial intelligence and chatbots this Tuesday (12) during the Real Summit 2023 event, held in Seoul, the capital of Korea.
Right path
Samsung has received international certification for the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence in its home applications division, which focuses on home appliances and common household products.
The ISO/IEC 42001 certification was issued by the Artificial Intelligence Management System. It is generally granted to companies that ensure the safe application and good management of the risks of artificial intelligence in the development and commercialization of products and services based on this technology.
AI is a fundamental element of several Samsung products, mainly on devices compatible with SmartThings, the Korean brand's smart home ecosystem compatible with refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines and dryers, robot vacuum cleaners, smart locks, among others.
With this technology, the company can automate processes based on user needs, as well as detect the best settings for different use cases. For example, the air conditioner called WindFree Black Edition has an Auto Cooling AI. It analyzes air conditions and adjusts its operation for better performance.
By meeting the safety and transparency specifications required by the Korea Association, the company now offers assurance that its products utilize AI safely throughout their entire lifecycle. In addition, the company adheres to key ethical principles for AI in Korea, such as applying security and encryption protocols when storing personal information. “Samsung applies rigorous pre- and post-development standards to provide consumer-friendly AI home appliances and services,” said Miyoung Yoo, vice president of Samsung’s Home Appliances Division.
