The Samsung Galaxy A54 is one of the favorite mid-range phones so far in 2023. Mainly because of its cameras, which are similar in some aspects to premium models. But is it the best smartphone for this category of photography in Brazil?
To answer this question, check out the comparison of photos from the Samsung Galaxy A54 with other mid-range phones such as Motorola Edge 40, Realme 11 Pro Plus and Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus, all analyzed using the same standard. Keep reading and see the results of this comparison.
Type of analysis
All photos were taken more than once in automatic mode and the best options were selected side by side. It was also decided to keep AI scene enhancements enabled on all devices, as it is a common feature and usually comes enabled by default. Check out the camera specs.
Galaxy A54: 50MP, f/1.8;
Motorola Edge 40: 50MP, f/1.4;
Realme 11 Pro+: 200MP, f/1.7;
Redmi Note 12 Pro+: 200 MP, f/1.7.
More megapixels doesn’t mean better photos. That’s because the most important thing about a smartphone camera is image post-processing (ISP). If your main subject is a person with darker skin tones, the Galaxy A54 takes advantage of its ability to maintain more realistic colors in both the main subject and the scene. The Motorola Edge 40 came in second with a sharper and more contrasty image. This is a positive thing, but it may bother some people who prefer a more “subtle” image. On the other hand, both Chinese devices stray from reality by changing the skin color of the subject in the image and the details of the scene.
When it comes to photos of light-skinned people, Samsung Mobile once again excelled with blurrier backgrounds and more realistic colors. Despite the excessive contrast, the Realme 11 Pro+ comes in second, followed by the Edge 40 which does not change skin tones.
When it comes to selfies, these four phones are very different. The A54 and Edge 40 (both with 32MP) are again competing for the top spot, while the Realme 11 Pro+ (32MP) and the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ (16 MP) does not achieve ideal results for skin tones.
Final considerations
Mid-range smartphones have improved considerably in terms of camera setups in recent years, and now the Galaxy A54 is a prime example. It shows the best results in various scenarios and sensors and is comparable to some premium models in everyday use.
The 50MP main camera combined with Samsung post-processing offers vibrant colors, good HDR levels and a balanced night mode. Stability is low, but video quality is also excellent. The rest of the rear camera also maintains the best level in the category. The Edge 40 came in second and it has been very interesting to see Motorola's progress in photography. Rounding out the top three is the Realme 11 Pro+. It doesn't handle skin tones very well, but landscape shots or wide-angle shots generally have good HDR, vivid colors, and high texture. The weakest of the four is the Redmi Note 12 Pro+, which fails in almost every way.
