Global organization that ensures AI is beneficial, understand the reasons.
The United Nations (UN) is always concerned about the major issues facing humanity. Whether it's humanitarian issues, violence or climate change, the fact is that the UN is constantly debating the right way to do things.
It was no different with artificial intelligence. This technology, which is increasingly present in our daily lives, could not fail to be addressed by the organization. Currently, the UN wants to ensure that this path is beneficial for the entire planet. Keep reading and find out how.
Global Summit
On Thursday, the 6th, there was a different kind of meeting. Both men and robots came together to find solutions to the world's problems. And this is not a scene from a movie, but rather the Global Summit “Artificial Intelligence for Good”, which took place in Geneva, Switzerland.
The meeting brought together important names from industry, government and the humanitarian sector. Several technology academics were also present. In addition, the main surprise was the presence of more than 50 robots specialized, of which 9 were so-called “humanoids”, made to look like humans and project their actions.
The machines will showcase their skills, including fighting fires, providing aid, providing healthcare and supporting sustainable agriculture. This will be the first time that such a large number of robots have been present at a meeting.
The United Nations International Telecommunication Union, ITU, held the event to discuss safeguards that ensure the safe and reliable use of artificial intelligence.
Furthermore, the ITU believes that all this new technology has the potential to be a powerful catalyst in rescuing progress towards the famous Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs.
UN Applications
Leading experts in the field who gathered at this Summit will discuss practical applications of artificial intelligence in several related areas, such as health, climate, gender and inclusion.
This initiative takes place in a context that is marked by the emergence of numerous innovations, which are increasingly changing our perceptions of creativity and productivity in all aspects.
For this reason, the ITU wants to encourage the use of artificial intelligence elements to reinforce more humane responses. In addition, it wants to improve the fight against climate change and promote several advances in areas of development priority.
The Summit will host the final round of the Innovation Factory, where startups from around the world will present their AI ideas to advance the SDGs.
Open meeting
So that everyone can participate in this very important discussion, the Summit, which will emphasize articulations to create new projects, actions and partnerships, will be open to the public.
