Chinese manufacturer has introduced a roll-up model that has impressed technology lovers. Find out more about this new product!

With the advancement of technology, many manufacturers are taking the opportunity to innovate their cell phones and are presenting increasingly different models. In addition to foldable cell phones, which are currently popular, some companies are also looking at rollable screens.

With this in mind, Tecno took advantage of IFA 2023, one of the main technology fairs, to reveal one of its projects, which is in the research and development phase, the Phantom Ultimate. The model stands out for its rollable AMOLED screen, which stretches to take the display from 6.55 inches to 7.11 inches in just two seconds.

Phantom Ultimate

As it is still a concept, technical details of the phone were not presented, leaving the rollable screen and its design as the main focuses of the announcement at the fair. Initially, the Phantom Ultimate looks like a traditional phone, with a 6.55-inch AMOLED front screen, 9.93 mm thick, dual cameras in circles that are not housed in a module and a secondary screen, which remains active to show some elements such as the clock, notifications and battery.

The secondary screen is actually an extension of the rollable screen. At the press of a button, the panel extends horizontally, transforming the phone into a small 7.11-inch tablet. The speed of this operation stands out as it takes 1.2 to 1.3 seconds, which is faster than other rollable screen concepts seen so far.

Tecno has made it clear that there is no forecast for this new product to hit the market, but rather as proof that the brand is capable of developing devices like this. And even if the phone is launched, there is no guarantee that this will be the final format, and there is a chance of adjustments to components, design or other areas.

This is not the first rollable cell phone concept from Tecno, which presented the Phantom Vision V in January. In addition to being extended, the model had a foldable part, combining two aspects that could be the future of cell phones.

Other companies that can invest in the model

Tecno isn't the only manufacturer involved in developing rollable displays. Brands like OPPO, Samsung and LG have already introduced phones with expanding displays. Among the latest concepts, the Motorola Rizr has been attracting attention, as it bets on a vertically rolled panel.

Apple

Furthermore, Apple may also be thinking about launching a rollable iPhone, as well as an iPad and MacBook in the same style. The website Patently Apple, which specializes in the company's patents, has brought a revelation: a rollable technology.

This means that when the cell phone is not being used, it can be fully foldable, allowing it to be more portable than a traditional cell phone. According to the patent document, the device will have a display that can be rolled up for storage and unrolled for use.

Despite having the patent, there is no certainty that Apple will launch this type of product, which is completely different from the standards that the company has presented over the years. Some time ago, the company already registered another patent in which the product also rolled up like a scroll, but it never reached consumers.

It is likely that this was due to the high production costs, which would need to be passed on to users, greatly increasing the final value of the product.
