WhatsApp is testing a new feature for users. The new feature should be available in the stable version soon!
WhatsApp never stops innovating! Now, the platform, which is one of the most used in the world, is testing a new feature that will bring innovation to video calls. With Meta avatars, users will be able to swap their face for an animated version.
This new feature is available in the beta version of WhatsApp 2.23.19.14 for Android, for a limited number of testers. According to the WABetaInfo platform, the app's intention is to help protect users' privacy. This feature was already made available for Messenger and Instagram calls in July.
Find out more about this new feature that could be coming to the messaging app soon!
New feature
The new feature is currently being tested by some beta testers of the Android version of the app. The intention from WhatsApp is to help protect the privacy of users, who will be able to mask their real appearance with the avatar, while continuing to interact in the video. Thus, users will be able to exchange their image for an animated version through the avatars provided by Meta.
The app's announcement shows three avatar options as an example and lists what the new feature provides for the user. When the user chooses to change, it will imitate the user's movements and facial expressions in real time, the account accepts a privacy policy, the flames will continue to be encrypted for the user's security, and it will be possible to return to the regular video at any time.
In addition to bringing a more fun and personalized tone to chats, the feature allows those who do not want to appear to be able to see the other participants without any problem, without it just being a static photo.
The new feature should reach more users soon, without a concrete forecast.
More news
In addition to testing new features, the messaging app is testing changes to its look. The new app design is available in version 2.23.23.16 of WhatsApp beta for Android. This new app material is the latest version of Google's design system, which can be applied to Android, web, and other platforms. This material is characterized by a simpler design language and 2D.
With this update, in light mode, the app header is white, with its green elements, in the same tone used in the app logo. The app's sign now appears with a new font, also in green.
The navigation bar appears at the bottom of the screen. There will also be some filter options, just like in an email inbox. Filters will allow you to find specific messages more easily. Filters include: All, Unread, Personal, and Business. This feature arrives in this version with a new look, but it was already part of some previous beta versions.
These new design features are available to some testers and should be available to others soon, in the coming weeks. If all the tests go well, it is possible that the new material will reach the regular version of the app soon, but there is no confirmed date for this yet.
The app is also testing a change to its call interface, adding a larger “add participants” button, making the feature more visible. The new feature is also being tested in the beta version of the app for Android and iOS users and should reach the stable version in the coming weeks.
