Created in 1930, the Ministry of Education, MEC, is the most important body for defining learning criteria in the country, both in higher and secondary education, whether published or private.

It is currently part of the national education policy, as previously described, early childhood education, assessment concepts that include the annual ENEM test and which serves as a cut-off grade for admission through SISU (Federal Universities) or Prouni (Private Universities).

Opening hours are Monday to Friday, from 7am to 8pm, without closing at noon. The general public is served from 9am to 5pm, also from Monday to Friday.

The MEC general office is located at Esplanada dos Ministérios, in the city of Brasília. You can call the central office for free. 0800 616161.

SISU: The Unified Selection System or SISU, is the Ministry of Education's computerized system, made specifically for public institutions that offer places to students who took the ENEM.

Candidates who receive the best evaluations will be invited to join the universities.

Who can participate: Those who registered in the first half of 2020 may still be called in the second call. The next registration period will only be in the middle of the year. You will need to provide your ENEM 2019 registration number and the password you registered with.

PROUNI: The University for All Program (Prouni) of the Ministry of Education is a program that offers full and partial scholarships (50%) at private higher education institutions. To be eligible for this program, you must have completed your entire high school education at a public school or have studied with a full scholarship at a private university.

However, the process is not just about having studied for free in the public school system and registering. The student must prove his/her income, which cannot exceed 2 minimum wages in the family. If you already have a higher education degree, then you will no longer be able to enroll in the program.

FIES: Applications for FIES for the first semester of 2020 will be accepted until March 31, 2020. Created in 2001, the program has undergone changes in its operation, even allowing interest exemption for those who cannot effectively pay the monthly fee after finishing university.

How to make complaints about MEC services?

Finally, we have set aside a service channel here to report irregularities at the University where you study or in any financing program.

Any problems can be reported by calling 0800 61 61 61, supervised by the Student Service Center (CAPE). Cape also provides an online channel to receive suggestions and criticisms.

Educational institutions must comply with federal laws and present their activities in accordance with the recommendations. If you are a paying student at the University and your problems are not resolved through the MEC service channel, you can contact Procon and exercise your rights as a Consumer.
