No more physical keyboard on cell phones

With the launch of the first iPhone in 2007, the Apple revolutionized Here’s everything we know about smartphones, especially when it comes to using the device. Previously, most cell phones were designed with a physical keyboard, usually with separate buttons for making calls and sending text messages. However, the iPhone offers an entirely new design based on a touchscreen that does not require physical keys.

It didn't take long for touchscreens to be adopted by other manufacturers, who still use this technology as standard today.

Launched the first computer without a floppy disk port

For a long time, floppy disks were the primary means of storing and transferring data on computers. However, when Steve Jobs originally conceived the iMac, his plans did not include ports for the device.

Launched in 1998, Apple computers featured innovative and colorful designs. By eliminating the floppy disk drive, the company emphasized its vision of a more modern and forward-looking computing experience. This ultimately contributed to the decline in the use of floppy disks as a means of data storage as other companies began to follow suit.

CD and DVD drives have been removed from the laptop

Apple began removing CD and DVD drives from notebooks in the late 2000s. As a first step toward a thinner and lighter laptop concept, the company decided not to include a drive in the first MacBook Air, released in January 2008.

As a result of this decision, the company prioritized wireless connectivity and other forms of data transmission, such as using an external USB drive or downloading software. Other manufacturers gradually followed suit, and most laptops on the market today do not have CD and DVD drives.

Removed the headphone jack from the iPhone

Additionally, Apple was one of the first companies to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack (or P2, as it is known) from its smartphones. These changes were introduced in September 2016 with the launch of the iPhone 7. Before that, the jack was a standard feature on almost all electronic devices that played audio, including smartphones.

Apple's decision was considered controversial at the time and sparked debate among the industry and consumers. However, the company stated that removing the port freed up space for other components and increased the device's water resistance. As a result, the company invested in the use of wireless headphones, such as AirPods, which connect via Bluetooth.

Touch ID technology for unlocking

Touch ID is a system of biometric authentication which allows users to use their fingerprint to unlock their devices (e.g. iPhone, iPad, MacBook) and make authenticated transactions. This technology was first introduced with the iPhone 5S, released in September 2013, and provides an extra layer of security over traditional authentication methods such as password or PIN.

The success of this feature has led other technology companies to develop similar biometric authentication systems, such as fingerprint readers on smartphones and laptops.
