Movies provide entertainment for many people around the world. Of course, over time, this entertainment has changed with the advent of technology. What was once only possible by going to the movies is now literally in the palm of our hands.
Cell phones have completely changed the film industry, with the arrival of social media and video platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, for example. But nothing has changed the film market as much as streaming platforms.

Streaming movies
The pioneer in this field is certainly Netflix, which everyone around the world knows for its vast catalog of films. In addition, the brand is known for always innovating, bringing interactive and different content. However, in addition to Netflix, HBO and Disney Plus, there is a streaming service that will be discontinued in the coming months.
The app has never been so popular in Brazil, but it is known for the big name of its company. Keep reading and better understand the reasons for the end of this streaming service.
Play Movies
Google is discontinuing the Play Movies & TV app for Android TV. The information came from the company itself, which sent an email to users confirming the facts.
As such, the app is expected to stop working from October 5th this year. This became more of a niche solution for the company, but it was eventually canceled. It is worth noting that several separate apps were launched focusing on different elements. For example, Play Music was part of this collection, but it was discontinued in 2020.
The music service was eventually replaced by YouTube Music. For the Movies & TV app, an email from Google states that users can access the service via the “Purchases” tab. This way, you can also access content you’ve already purchased, meaning it won’t be lost. This means you can still buy and rent movies on your Android TV, but the apps will simply stop working.
You can also buy movies through the YouTube app, which, as mentioned, is also owned by the tech giant. However, the company has created its own support line to answer questions.
The Play Movies & TV app is no longer included on Google devices, such as Chromecast. However, access is possible on older devices, such as NVIDIA Shield TV. In addition, the Play Movies & TV tab was already removed from the Play Store in March of this year. Unfortunately, there is no reason to know the real reason for the shutdown of the app. There is speculation that its revenue was low, but Google has not confirmed any information.
Other applications
The news comes at a time when the fate of another streaming service is hanging in the balance. Apple is rumored to be in talks to buy Disney's catalog, and it's unclear what will happen if the deal goes through. Those who are curious can only wait and hope that if Apple really does acquire Disney, the quality is maintained, or even improved.
