Understand the changes to Google's camera app. The company plans to launch new features for the app.
Days after launching the new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones, Google has made a subtle change to one of the company's native smartphone apps. The Google Camera service is now called Pixel Camera, to emphasize that it is exclusive to devices in this family of devices – this service was implemented by the company some time ago.
The change has even gone live on the app's Google Play Store page, with the new name and patch notes for the latest version of the app even translated into Brazilian Portuguese (although the company's devices are not officially sold in our country). Check out more news below.

Application improvements
With the latest update, 9.1, compatible devices can enjoy new features such as a new interface that makes it easier to navigate between the different photo modes and improvements in the handling of uncompressed files in RAW format. In addition, the brand has decided to incorporate general bug fixes and improvements.
There are also two features available only on the Pixel 8 Pro: the ability to take high-resolution photos with the 50MP sensor and Pro Controls, with more advanced settings for shutter speed, ISO and specialized aspects. Another good news for professional photographers and demanding amateurs.
Pixel Camera Redesign
This change is apparently Google's way of emphasizing that the service is not available for any Android device, but only for the manufacturer's devices. Previous rumors about the Pixel 8 series indicated that the next-generation default software would get a revisit. The Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel Fold foldable models may also receive updates to this app, but it is currently only available in version 9.0.
By default, the app already allows you to use night vision, high-resolution zoom, long exposure, panning and macro focus features. Android 14, The latest version of the brand's mobile operating system will first arrive on new devices, then it will be available on older Pixel models, and then it will only appear on phones from other brands.
New Pixel 8
Google introduced the company's new generation of smartphones on Wednesday the 4th. These devices are the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro, which bring significant improvements over previous models and mark the arrival of Android 14 on the market.
The pair share some features, including Google's new processor, but differ in size, rear camera quality and memory specs.
Even smarter smartphone
The current line of devices focuses on artificial intelligence (AI), which is present in both user navigation and tool functionality. This includes the camera, email, and apps within the company's ecosystem. The smartphone comes standard with a series of AI-powered content creation or editing features. In addition, it has a call assistant that helps prevent spam and allows automatically generated voices to control specific calls. A great example is confirming an appointment or reservation at a restaurant.
Another new feature is Google Photos Magic Eraser, which can edit photos, remove unwanted elements from a portrait or disguise objects. Google Translate is also natively present on the device this time. It is capable of interpreting conversations in real time, transcribing texts on the internet and even reading signs framed by the camera. The new Google Assistant features are also new to this mobile line. The feature helps write emails and create text content that were originally introduced on Bard, for example.
