  1. Initially, João Peixoto Viegas settled in the region that belonged to the Paiaiás Indians, and founded a land grant for cattle raising, thus founding the village of São José das Itapororocas in 1619;

  3. Then, the Portuguese couple Domingos Barbosa de Araújo and Ana Brandoa bought the Olhos D'Água farm, between 1705 and 1710 and donated 100 fathoms in a block of land, to build a chapel, at the top of Boa Vista, within the scope of the Mons. Galvão and Padre Ovídio squares, close to Estrada Real, which would be the foundation of Feira de Santana;
  4. Later, the city began to be populated, around the year 1819; and, after Dom Pedro approved the petition asking for the exaltation of the Town;
  5. Then, in 1846, the Parish of Santana was created, receiving after the visit of Dom Pedro II;
  6. In 1873 the village became a city and was given the name “Commercial City of Feira de Sant'Anna”;
  7. Visiting the city in 1919, the writer Ruy Barbosa called it the “Princess of the Sertão”, in homage to the region’s privileged position;
  8. Then, in 1931, during the government of Getúlio Vargas, the city was given the name “Feira”;
  9. Finally, in 1938, the city was definitively renamed: “Feira de Santana”;
