An update to the iPhone's operating system forced a woman to change her name. Find out why!
An unusual incident caused confusion and caused a woman to change her name because of iOS 17, the iPhone's operating system. Can you imagine? The Scottish woman, who is a personal trainer, has the same name as Apple's virtual assistant, Siri. After updating her phone, Siri Price, 26, discovered that the assistant could only be activated with the command “Siri”, instead of “Hey, Siri”, as was previously the case.
Siri said that the change made her furious because both her cell phone and the phones of people close to her started to automatically activate the virtual assistant whenever people called her name. Because of this, the personal assistant started asking people to call her by another name, to avoid confusion.

Name change
Siri Price told the NY Post that after the launch of Apple's virtual assistant in 2011, she and her friends found a simple solution to prevent the Siri assistant was activated by mistake when they met. According to her, they agreed that they would not greet her using the word “Hey,” which was also part of the “Hey Siri” command. According to her, the situation was annoying, but she could bear it.
Despite the friends' agreement, things started to go wrong when Apple released an update for the assistant in iOS 17, and with that, it became easier to call the Siri assistant, since it was now activated only with the command “Siri”. Because of this update, Siri Price had to take a more drastic measure to avoid confusion, and because of that, she decided to change her name.
She explained in frustration that people can no longer say her name. She also told The Sun that her work friends had to sit down with her to find a solution, since it was no longer feasible to call her by her name in the workplace. According to her, people's cell phones were ringing non-stop. As a result, she decided to change her name to Siz, an old nickname that she had to bring back to put an end to this problem caused by iOS 17.
iOS 17 was released by Apple on September 18th of this year, introducing some very interesting new features. One of them is Standby mode, which turns the phone's screen into a clock when the iPhone is not being used at the moment. In addition, the new update also introduced NameDrop, an easier way to share the number of friends, and posters for contacts, which allow you to customize the presentation of contacts saved in your address book.
People's names in assistants have caused problems
Interestingly, the name “Siri” is not the only one that has caused confusion among people in recent years. Since the launch of Amazon’s virtual assistant, Alexa, in 2014, parents of children with the same name have been protesting against the robot’s name in the United Kingdom. In reports made to the BBC, many of these parents said that their daughters began to be bullied at school because of the virtual assistant’s name. According to these parents, the situation has also affected the children’s mental health.
