In addition to the recent Threads, the company Meta is also accused of cloning other successful social networks.
Every day we see new social networks emerging, with countless different proposals, whether for interactions with exchanging messages or sharing photos, videos and more. Recently, the Threads was launched and has been causing a stir, as it has come to compete directly with Twitter, which has faced problems, both within the platform and outside, with recent criticism from users, who did not like changes made by the company's owner, Elon Musk. However, what has caught the attention of internet users is the similarity between the applications created by Mark Zuckerberg, from the company Meta, creator of Threads, and existing applications. Have you noticed this similarity between them? Read more below.
Some people have accused Zuckerberg of “cloning” other companies’ apps to create his own and become a direct competitor. Meta also owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Applications and similarities
SnapChat and Stories
The stories tool in Instagram was created in 2016 and was inspired by the stories feature that has existed on Snapchat since 2011. This feature is widely used and allows users to share posts that remain online for a period of 24 hours.
According to rumors, Snapchat would have rejected a purchase offer made by Mark's company, which would have led him to create the function for his company's platforms.
TikTok and Reels
The app TikTok, was launched in 2016 as a social network for short videos, and was initially widely used by teenagers. In 2019, when the app was already very popular, Instagram launched Reels, which has a format very similar to TikTok's proposal.
BeReal and Candid
BeReal became known last year for sending a notification every day, at a random time, offering users up to two minutes to post a new photo, with the idea of betting on spontaneous images that have no filters and do not receive likes.
In the same year, Meta began testing Candid, in which users are encouraged to post a photo in their stories after a notification from the platform, however, the feature has not yet arrived in Brazil.
Twitch and Facebook Gaming
Twitch is a live video platform that stands out for its game broadcasts, also known as gameplays. It was created in 2011 and purchased by Amazon in 2014.
In 2018, Facebook Gaming was launched, a section on the social network that has the same proposal of bringing together content creators who create gameplays.
Youtube and IGTV
In 2018, Instagram launched IGTV, a feature for videos up to an hour long, with the idea of encouraging content creators to use the platform to attract viewers from TV and online. YouTube.
Apparently, the feature didn't work out very well and IGTV was shut down in 2022. As a result, the long videos that had been published on the platform were integrated into users' Instagram profiles, and the company began to focus on expanding Reels, which has been widely used.
