How to remove the glass film from your cell phone

Placing a glass screen protector on your cell phone is a very responsible move. Taking this precaution can prevent damage to your device, such as the infamous scratches, which are not only an aesthetic problem, but also a practical one.

Cracks and scratches on the screen pose a risk to the functionality of your cell phone. Even if the crack did not initially damage the touch screen, over time it can become corrupted and make it impossible for you to use your device.

The function of the glass film

There is no better option on the market to protect your cell phone screen than glass screen protectors. Unlike other options, such as plastic or gel screen protectors that are more susceptible to scratches, glass screen protectors act as a second screen for your phone. Some even promise to prevent breakage in the event of a fall.

Announcement

There are companies that manufacture screen protectors with tempered glass. This makes the product more resistant and transparent, ensuring that your phone is protected against risky situations. The products can be as thin as 0.3 cm, which is not much different from the thickness of paper, and will provide your device with three times more resistance than plastic.

Does the film protect against large drops?

The purpose of a glass screen protector is to provide greater protection for your phone's screen. In other words, it prevents it from breaking easily if dropped slightly. However, having a device with this extra protection does not mean that the screen protector will be effective in all cases.

Even though some companies promise unbreakable screens, the material used is still the same as always: glass. It is resistant, but it is not infallible. It is just another feature to protect the phone screen from scratches, marks and possible dirt. Making it safer against sharp objects and accidents, for example.

But what about touch?

Many people are reluctant to use glass screen protectors for fear that it will interfere with the touch. It is no lie that some devices perform better with the screen protector than others.

Still, one of the main positive features of the product is that the protection does not compromise the touch. Sliding the cell phone screen through the film should not compromise navigation.

Another function of the cell phone that can be affected by the film is the camera. Some models of films cover the front camera of certain devices, affecting the image quality.

Why remove broken window film?

As noted above, glass screen protectors are not unbreakable. Depending on the amount of pressure the screen protector is exposed to, it can crack or shatter completely. This can put your device at risk.

Whenever there is a hole or crack in your tempered glass screen protector, you should replace it. It doesn’t matter how small it is. This is because glass has a habit of turning small cracks and holes into large defects. The glass shards, over time, can end up damaging your phone’s screen if the film is not replaced.

Now that you understand the importance of having a window film in perfect condition, how about finding out how to remove it and replace it. Check out the tips below!

Learn how to remove the glass film from your cell phone

There are several ways to remove the glass screen protector from your device. The size of your hand and nails, how well the protector is attached to the screen, and several other specificities can influence this. Taking this into account, we present 3 different techniques below so that you can choose the best one for your case.

Before you start, however, a good tip is to use a hair dryer. Turn it on to a temperature that is not too hot and point it at your screen for approximately 15 seconds. This helps to weaken the adhesive on the film, making the whole process easier. However, be careful not to damage your device with the heat.

Technique 1

Before you get excited and grab your tool kit, know that you don’t need all of these tools. You can remove the screen protector with just your fingernail. Try prying the screen protector up from the corners of your device.

Once the film starts to lift, stop pulling on just the corners. This can cause the product to break. Apply controlled pressure along the length of the protector as it peels away from the screen. This prevents it from coming apart before you can remove it completely.

Technique 2

If your fingernail isn't enough to remove the glass screen protector, try using a toothpick to pry up the corners. Be careful to point the pointed end toward the screen protector, though. Otherwise, the tip of the toothpick could damage the screen.

Once you have managed to lift a corner, simply pull the film with your fingers. Remember to do it slowly and evenly. Another tip that can help you is the credit card. Slide the card into the opening and push it slowly to lift the screen protector.

Technique 3

The third technique is widely used by those who professionally remove screen protectors. It is not uncommon to see adhesive tape being used to remove screen protectors from cell phones.

To do this, wrap a piece of tape around two of your fingers with the sticky side facing out. Stick it to one corner of the screen protector and pull it off. If the tape's adhesive is strong enough, the screen protector will move and you'll be able to remove it.
