How to CALIBRATE your CELL PHONE battery?

Learn two ways to calibrate your cell phone battery. The process requires a few steps and improves the health of your battery.

Cell phones are increasingly becoming a part of our lives, helping us with many everyday tasks. Because of this need to always have our device with us, battery problems are the most common concern among mobile device users, since having a healthy and well-functioning battery is essential to being able to enjoy your cell phone in the best way possible, without experiencing problems and headaches.

Therefore, if your cell phone battery is failing, discharging too quickly or charging too slowly, it may be time to calibrate it. However, to do this, you first need to identify the reason why the battery performance is decreasing, and only then perform the calibration.

Battery showing problems

You need to identify why your battery performance is decreasing: is it the system calibration or the battery itself? If your phone has a removable cover, turn it off, remove the cover, and inspect the battery. Look for leaks or swelling on the device. If this is the case, look for a specialized technical assistance, because it's time to change your cell phone battery.

Calibration

THE Android operating system There is a feature called Battery Stats that keeps track of the battery capacity when it is full or empty. Sometimes it gets corrupted and starts displaying data that is not real, which can cause the phone to shut down before it even reaches 0%.

Calibrating your Android battery means having the system correct this information so that it reflects your actual battery levels once again. It's important to know that you can't actually calibrate the battery itself. The battery is a cell that stores energy and discharges over time. However, lithium-ion batteries include a printed circuit board, which serves as a protection switch to prevent them from exploding or discharging out of nowhere.

These batteries have no memory, so there's not much you can do to keep them working as they should. When it comes to battery calibration, it's the percentage meter that goes wrong, and that's what needs to be fixed.

How to calibrate the battery of an Android phone

If you do not have administrator access to the Android system on your cell phone, there are two very simple options that can be used to calibrate the device's battery.

First option

– Completely discharge the cell phone until it turns off by itself;

– Connect your phone to a charger and leave it charging with it turned off, until the screen indicates 100%;

– Disconnect from the charger;

– Turn on your phone. The battery indicator will probably not show 100%. Reconnect the charger with the device turned on and continue charging until the screen shows 100%.

– Unplug the phone and restart it again. If it doesn’t display 100% charging, plug the charger in again until it displays 100%;

– Repeat the cycle until it is at 100% or as close as possible when you start it without being plugged in;

– Now let the battery discharge to 0% and let the phone turn off again;

– Fully charge the battery once more without interruption and you should reset the system battery percentage.

It is not recommended to perform this process regularly. Even when your battery is so drained that the phone won't turn on, it still has enough reserve power to prevent damage to the system. Therefore, the process should be performed once every three months at most.

Second option

– Completely discharge the device until it turns off by itself;

– Turn it on and let it turn off again;

– Connect the phone to the charger and without turning it on, let it charge until the screen indicates 100% of charge;

– Disconnect from the charger;

– Turn on the phone. The battery indicator will probably not show 100%. Plug the charger back in with the phone turned on and continue charging until it shows 100%;

– Disconnect the phone and restart. If it does not display 100%, connect the charger again until it displays 100%;

– Repeat the cycle until it shows 100% or as close as it can get when you start it without being connected to the charger;

– Install the Battery Calibration app, and before restarting it make sure the battery is 100% again and restart;

– After calibrating the battery, discharge it to 0% and let the phone turn off once more;

– Fully charge the battery once more without interruption while it is turned off. This will reset the battery percentage.
