Learn how to use this Messenger tool. Watch the tutorial below and use it on your Facebook.
After Meta, a company founded by Mark Zuckerberg, integrated Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, the apps began to perform the same or similar functions. One of them is the sending of temporary messages through Messenger (a feature also available on WhatsApp and Instagram).
Vanishing mode allows you to send messages that disappear after you close your phone's chat screen. Learn how to activate this mode in Messenger below.
What is Temporary Mode?
Facebook defines the temporary mode as follows: “This is a mode where the message you are viewing disappears after the recipient views it or closes the chat on their smartphone.”
First, it's important to know that the mode is only available for one-on-one chats. You can turn the temporary mode on or off by swiping up on a chat. This mode allows you to send text messages, photos, videos, and other supported content in the chat.
However, content sent in a temporary mode disappears when someone leaves the chat or turns off the mode. Keep in mind that you’ll receive a notification when someone sends you a temporary message in Messenger. To continue chatting with this person in the mode you chose, simply tap the notification. You’ll also receive a notification if this person sends you a new message while you’re not in the new mode.
Additionally, you can't copy, save, or forward disappearing messages. Accounts that have never had any conversations can't send disappearing-style message requests. Another thing to note is that the mode can't be used in groups of Instagram and Messenger accounts.
How to activate the mode on mobile
On Android and iPhone, turn on fully encrypted chat, then turn on disappearing message mode in Messenger app. Once you start a fully encrypted chat, you can set a timer so that everyone's messages will disappear at a certain time after they've seen them. However, anyone participating in the encrypted chat can change the timer. If you send someone a message and they don't read it within 14 days, the message will automatically disappear from the chat.
Messages and calls in one-on-one encrypted chats are protected from the moment they leave your device until they reach the receiving device. This means that no one, including Meta, can see or hear what you send or say during the sending process.
Change settings for disappearing messages in chat
- First, click Chat with someone.
- Then, click on the three dots at the top of the chat.
- Then tap Privacy and support.
- Finally, click Disappearing Message. Choose when messages disappear from the chat after you view them. Messages will disappear until you turn off disappearing messages or change the timer settings.
You or others in the fully encrypted chat can report message conversations using a timer that lasts up to six hours after the message disappears. However, be careful to only use disappearing messages with people you trust, and don’t send intimate messages to strangers just because you trust disappearing messages.
