CELL PHONE BECOMES MACHINE: PagBank launches new service

Discover PagBank's new technology. Your cell phone can become a card machine.

PagBank has launched a feature that turns your Android smartphone into a machine. The announcement comes after Apple launched iPhone options starting with the XS model in Brazil last week.

The app will initially be available to select institutional customers, with the features being rolled out gradually. Both programs are based on NFC technology, a wireless communication between peripheral devices that is already integrated into small devices. The difference is that now the acquiring system does not need to be tied to the process. To collect, merchants simply tap their phone against the customer’s debit or credit card, watch or digital wallet.

Payment by mobile phone

For Apple, the payment system varies according to the partners' offerings. So far, only the fintech CloudWalk app (responsible for the InfinitePay payment system) has joined the solution. To access the PagBank system, you need to download the free PagVendas app and have an account with the digital bank.

In addition to Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, Elo, Mastercard, Visa and Amex are currently available. This program is not compatible with the iPhone's iOS system. However, PagBank is studying the expansion of the application offering for these devices.

Is it worth using?

Individuals and businesses that sell goods or services must adapt to the payment methods chosen by their customers. The rule is clear: offer better experiences and increase sales. One of the options available is that using the phone as a device is an important resource. Find out everything about this tool below.

Why use your phone as a credit card terminal?

Credit cards have become one of the main payment methods worldwide. More than 50 million Brazilians currently use credit cards as a form of payment. Most of these users have four or more credit cards. The title “Card Machine” is nothing more than a terminal (device) that reads cards and transmits information between the company that sells goods or services, the customer and the card issuer. There are several card machine options on the market today.

All of this depends, to some extent, on access to some form of communication, which can be via a telephone line or the Internet (using cable, Wi-Fi or cell phone chips and cellular data). Card dispensers are becoming increasingly modern and practical, making life easier for merchants and improving the user experience. The most interesting thing is that the latest models of card machines are not just small. New solutions that accept card payments allow smartphones to be used as devices for these transactions.

Does your phone work like a machine?

The purpose of using a mobile phone as a terminal is the same as that of any card terminal. This means accepting payments and making life easier for both vendors and customers. The way it works is not much different from traditional terminals. Mobile phones can accept payments just like any other card terminal, but they are limited to contactless payments only.

For example, you can’t insert or swipe a card. It’s easy to turn your phone into a machine. Just download the compatible apps and sign up. If you follow the in-app sales guidelines, you can sell using your phone.

To sell, simply enter the amount and select the payment method (cash or installments). Then, the customer just needs to access the card with their cell phone and the sale is complete. Another advantage of using your cell phone is that not only regular cards are accepted. You can use your digital wallet on smart devices equipped with NFC technology (proximity), like other cell phones, bracelets and smartwatches.
