Cases of exploding cell phones: another SCARE in INDIA

There has been another case of a smartphone exploding. Here's how to protect yourself from it!

Cell phone explosions continue to occur. Last August, a man died from burns after his iPhone caught fire. Today, NDTV reported that three people were burned and windows were broken in a cell phone explosion in India. According to the website, an explosion occurred at a house in Nashik, Maharashtra, on Tuesday (26). The phones are charging next to cans of deodorant, increasing the destructive power of explosions caused by flammable ingredients.

The telco did not specify the make and model of the phone but said it was one of the largest smartphone-related explosions in India, as windows of nearby houses were also damaged. All three victims suffered severe burns and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Police are currently investigating the cause of the explosion.

Why do cell phones explode?

Typically, battery damage combined with high temperatures and poor quality accessories can cause fires and cell phone explosions, as seen in other similar incidents.

However, there are some habits you can incorporate into your daily life to avoid this risk of explosion. Check out five of them below.

Unplug your cell phone during heavy rains

During a thunderstorm, lightning can strike your home's electrical system, creating high voltages that can reach your cell phone. There is a risk of electric shock and possible explosion if someone is using your phone. Therefore, avoid using your device on rainy days.

Use an original charger and cable

Genuine chargers for smartphones and other electronic products are certified by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and carry the safety seal. There are components that maintain a voltage too low to produce a shock. In other words, original products are a safer solution for charging your devices in any situation.

Parallel chargers that are not certified or recommended by the manufacturer may not have some safety features. In addition, they may provide higher charges than recommended, damaging your phone. Also, avoid using adapters and be careful with sockets with weak contacts.

Original battery

It is also important that the batteries inserted in the device are original. The parallel version will not pass the safety certificate. Also be careful with the expansion or swelling of the battery. If your phone swells or any part of the screen lifts, stop using it and take it to technical support.

Battery chemicals can leak and even cause an explosion. Also pay attention to the temperature. If your device gets hotter than normal, seek professional help.

Don't leave your cell phone charging under your pillow

It is very important not to block your phone while it is charging. Therefore, do not place the product under a pillow, blanket or body while it is plugged in. This is because devices naturally get hot while charging and without sufficient ventilation, they can overheat and cause potentially fatal battery problems, such as explosions.

Additionally, keep your device away from yourself and flammable objects when you sleep. For example, if a fire breaks out, it is important not to be surprised or put yourself at greater risk. While this is a rare occurrence, it is important to take precautions.

When the phone rings, disconnect it from the charger

This is because if an accident occurs and the device receives an electric shock or ends up exploding, it will be away from your face. Additionally, using wired headphones while charging is not recommended.

Do not charge your phone in humid places

To avoid shock, do not charge your phone in damp locations, such as near sinks, bathtubs, or showers. It is also important not to connect or disconnect the charger with wet hands.
