In September of last year, WhatsApp has gained a new tool that gives users the option to create call links. The feature generates a URL that allows users to join individual or group calls in the app, just like it works on Zoom or Google Meet. The feature is a great option for those who hold meetings via messaging app. However, many people are not even aware of the existence of this resource, which is relatively new.

How to create

Creating a call link on WhatsApp is very easy and requires just a few steps:

  1. Open the app and click on “Calls” at the top of your screen;
  2. Select the “Create call link” option;
  3. On the next screen, click on “Call Type” and select whether you want voice or video;
  4. The link will be created and you can choose whether you want to send it via WhatsApp, copy the link, or share it.

With call links, anyone with a WhatsApp account can join the call by tapping the link. So it’s important to be careful and only share the link with people you trust.

People you block will not be able to access a link you created.

What's new on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is testing a new update that aims to remove phone numbers from account creation and introduce unique usernames for each user. The change is currently being tested and may impact privacy and the use of the app.

With the new update, users will create names associated with their account, allowing anyone to contact another person using just their username, without having to share their phone number.

The use of unique names is already used on other networks, such as Instagram, but being included in WhatsApp completely changes the way the application has operated for so many years. The proposal ensures that the username is only used by one person.

There is no official release date yet for the update that aims to remove phone numbers. The new feature is currently being tested by users of version 2.23.11.15 of WhatsApp beta for Android.

Beta testing is used by users to test features before they are released to all users. Through testing, the company can receive feedback on whether the feature being tested works or not.
