App archiving
The option to automatically archive applications happens when the user selects the option and Play Store identifies which apps or games the user does not use, archiving them automatically. The option does not delete files from the device, but eliminates components, freeing up space.
In some cases, archived apps take up up to 60% less space on the phone. Archived games and apps will remain on the device's home screen, with a cloud icon over the logo. Therefore, users will need to download them again.
This new feature should gradually reach users of Android cell phones worldwide. Some users with Play Store versions 37.4 and 37.5 have already received the update. The new feature can be accessed through Settings.
If it still isn't showing up for you, select the Play Store app, click on information and check the app version. If it's not the latest version, you can update it.
How to archive applications
- Open the Play Store app and click on your profile picture in the top right corner of the screen;
- Select the “Settings” option;
- Click on “General”;
- Activate the “Automatically archive apps” option using the switch on the right side. It will change color from gray to blue.
Enabling this feature is very useful and prevents the app from being uninstalled and losing all of its data. However, it is only valid for software updated to the Android App Bundle format and cannot be available with older programs.
