Here's how to use the new iPhone payment feature. The new feature will benefit Brazilian customers and business owners.
Apple announced last Tuesday (19) that Brazilian companies can now accept contactless payments using the Tap to Pay feature directly on the iPhone.
The company said in an official statement that this new feature allows merchants, from small businesses to large retailers, to accept Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets using only the partner apps for iPhone and iOS, without any additional equipment or terminal payments. Simpler payment
Apple said payment platforms and app developers in Brazil can use the iPhone to integrate iOS apps and offer payment options to business customers.
The first certified partner is CloudWalk, a payment institution certified by the central bank, which will be available to corporate clients in Brazil. In this case, the fintech's clients that own the InfinitePay machine network will already have access to its features. In addition, other payment platforms, including Granito, Nubank, Stone and SumUp, will also offer new features soon.
Launch in South America
Brazil is the sixth country to launch tap-to-pay payments via iPhone, which are currently available in the US, UK, Australia, Netherlands and Taiwan. Devices compatible with Tap to Pay include models starting with the iPhone XS running iOS 17, the latest version of Apple's operating system released for update last Monday (18).
Tap to Pay on iPhone already works for businesses of all sizes around the world, from freelancers to large retailers. “We’re excited to offer a simple and secure in-person payment solution for merchants in Brazil,” said Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, in a statement.
“Brazil is a great country to do business in. Now companies will have the opportunity to accept contactless payments anywhere,” the businesswoman added.
But how does it work?
Merchants can accept contactless payments through the app on their iPhone, but only on devices newer than iOS version 17. At checkout, merchants simply ask customers to hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near the merchant’s iPhone and pay with Apple Pay, a contactless debit or credit card, or another digital wallet.
Payments are accepted through all major brands operating here, including American Express, Mastercard and Visa. The best part is that merchants don’t need any additional equipment to accept contactless payments using Tap to Pay on iPhone.
According to Apple, the new iPhone feature ensures that customer payment data is protected. This is because it uses the same technology that makes Apple Pay private and secure. Transactions are encrypted and Apple cannot know what or who is buying. The brand said in a statement that it is working with the main payment platforms and application developers in the payments and commerce sector to bring the Tap to Pay functionality to the iPhone in Brazil.
