The agency is already aware of a problem with the device and will begin investigating the situation in Brazil. Find out more!
The National Telecommunications Agency, Anatel, will begin an investigation in Brazil to determine whether the iPhone 12 can cause harm to the user due to the electromagnetic waves emitted by the device. The agency has been aware of the situation since last Wednesday (13) that the device can exceed the permitted levels of electromagnetic waves, which would result in radiation contact for the owner of the device.
Certification departments and laboratories have already been hired to organize market supervision and, possibly, several tests involving the device. Anatel will also contact ANFR, the French entity that initially issued the warning about the possible risks of the cell phone, to obtain more information.

iPhone 12
France recently suspended sales of iPhone 12 in the country after authorities found that it emits more radiation than the regular limit. After testing, the regulatory agency concluded that the cell phone, launched in 2020, exceeds the amount of energy that users are able to absorb while holding the device in their hand.
According to the French, the problem is easy to solve. All that is needed is an update to the system to correct the emission parameters. The authorities stated that if Apple do not release the update, the model will be taken out of circulation in the country.
The company has promised to fix the problem by sending the update to users in France, accommodating the protocol used by regulators, so that the phone remains available in the country.
Until now, Anatel did not indicate whether it could request the suspension of sales or the recall of the model in Brazil, as was initially suggested in France. Although it is no longer in Apple's catalog, the line is still widely sold in physical or online stores of partner resellers and department stores, in addition to the sale of pre-owned devices.
Controversy
The controversy surrounding the iPhone 12 began on the same day that the brand's new 15th generation phones were introduced. The French regulatory body that filed the complaint says that the radiation emitted by the device exceeds the limits stipulated in European Union countries. Other countries, such as Germany and Italy, have announced that they will conduct their own tests to investigate the case.
Apple
According to Apple, the testing protocol adopted by French regulatory bodies was the only one that produced results different from those obtained by the company itself, being safe for use.
But, as already mentioned, the company has committed to releasing a software update for the model, to solve the radiation emission problem and prevent any blockage of sales and circulation of the device in France.
In 2022, Apple's revenue totaled about $95 million in Europe, making it the second-largest region behind the Americas. Estimates say that more than 50 million iPhone units were sold in Europe last year.
Anatel
Since the information has reached the Agency, it will begin an investigation to find out whether the device could cause harm to users. Certification departments and laboratories have already been hired to organize supervision and carry out tests with the device in the country. The agency also intends to contact the French regulator to find out more about the warning and the possible risks.
